About Ms. Olson

WHO I AM

I'm Ms. Olson and I am thrilled to be continuing my teaching career at Woodinville High School.

I grew up in Woodinville, WA and received my high school diploma from WHS. I left home for Bellingham, WA to earn a degree in Marine Biology with a Minor in Chemistry at Western Washington University. Upon graduating from WWU, I joined the work force for 3 years which moved me up and down the West Coast. I ended up in Portland, OR where I decided to pursue my original dream of teaching.

After a difficult but gratifying year I received my Master of Arts in Teaching.

Science has always been a passion of mine ever since my high school Biology teacher modeled academic curiosity and the beauty of science. I am excited to share my passion with young adults for the rest of my career.

When I am not teaching, planning, or grading I like to be outside hiking, taking my dog to the dog park, playing video games on rainy days, or traveling when I have time off.

MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Every student walks into a classroom with their own knowledge, experience, and background. These unique histories, that each student has, creates a diverse and immensely powerful learning community.

Equity is of utmost importance in my classroom. Because of each student's different history, every student has different learning needs. I take the time to understand what is it that each student needs to be successful and figure out how can I let that play out in my classroom.

Educational research strongly shows when students are given choice, work together, and can apply content to their everyday lives, learning occurs. I base many of my teaching practices based on this idea. All of my teaching practices are based strongly in education research best practices and what is best for each individual student.
