Your child has a daily plan of how they will get home. If those plans change (including someone different than normal picking them up), I must be notified in writing (this is kept on file in the office).
If you forget to send a note, or plans change mid-day, send me an email – if I get the email, I will reply briefly, just confirming my understanding of the plan. If you don’t hear back from me, assume I did NOT receive the email, and you should call the office at 425.408.5900 and notify them. Thank you!
We do not do food celebrations for birthdays due to food allergies however, you are welcome to come during your child's lunch time and bring them their favorite lunch or just join them for lunch. In class we acknowledge all birthdays with a special treat and birthday chair cover.
If your child would still like to bring in a non- food item treat, that would be great. Some families decide to do this and some don’t. Also, some families, choose to donate a new or gently used book to the classroom library. It is nice when the parents write some special message in the front cover of the book, marking their students special birthday occasion. I will also make it a priority to read the book if at all possible that day or at some point during the birthday week.
Scholastic Book Orders will come home monthly and I will include a date by when I make my orders (typically the 3rd week of the month). They take typically two weeks for delivery. This is a great opportunity to purchase books to add to your child’s personal collection at very reasonable prices.
To visit the Scholastic site at any time (your order will be processed with our next classroom order), go to the Scholastic website. Our classroom code is TPRHB
Each month your child will bring home a monthly ready log. Although it is not required homework, I do expect that students read at least 20 minutes every day, outside of school. Reading is so important in every grade but I cant' emphasize how much of a pivotal point 3rd grade is in your child's reading success. Please make this a priority! Students who color in at least 20 pictures on their monthly reading log, and who turn their reading log in by the 2nd school day of the following month, will receive 10 paw punches!
Since our lunch is scheduled so late in the day, we have a brief snack time scheduled right after specialists. Many students choose to take something small out of their lunch (if they pack a home lunch) for their snack. We have snack time scheduled at 11:05 for about 5 minutes. Please send your child a healthy snack if you think they will need one to make it through until the 12:15 lunch time. I have found that it has made a difference in many students ability to concentrate during the math lesson time.
Let's communicate! I am always just an email away! In addition to that I will be sending a monthly newsletter to parents starting the month of October. I will also send out emails as needed to keep parents updated on important classroom happenings. This year is an important year in helping students learn to become more independent learners, and in doing so we will be focusing on helping them to stay organized by using Snoopy Take Home folders. These folders will go home every day and will include any important papers from me; field trip forms, book orders, reading logs, etc,. Please return them with any notes from home as well. These can include transportation changes, lunch money, homework, and other important items.
Every Friday our classroom welcomes a Mystery Reader into our classroom. Of course, the students never know who is coming and that is why it is a mystery! I will read 5 clues throughout the day to have them guess who it might be. I encourage parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and older siblings to sign up to be a mystery reader. The parent rep for our class with typically use an online sign up sheet of sorts for this opportunity. Please see me if you are interested!
If you plan on volunteering in our classroom this year (or even going on a field trip or having lunch with your child on their birthday), you MUST have a Washington State Patrol Background check packet already filled out and on file with the office. If you have not already picked one up, please do so as soon as possible. They expire every two years.
It is a Wellington policy that in-class volunteering not start until October. This goes for PACE, too. It gives us a chance to bond with the students and get our new routines underway.
It has long been a PACE policy, and is now a school-wide policy that younger siblings not come to the classroom with you during your volunteering. Your full attention needs to be on the children you are working with, and that’s just not possible if you have a youngster there, too.
Prior to your volunteer time, EVERY time, you need to sign-in in the office, as well as in the classroom, and visibly wear a volunteer sticker.
PAW CARDS- Each student has a Paw Card behind their lunch card. They get a punch for good behavior, being extra helpful, getting Wellington Wow Cards, and for anything else I decide! Students also earn punches for turning in their reading logs at the beginning of a new month. When students have a full PAW CARD they can turn it in for something out of the prize box, coco with the teacher, free game time, and a list of other choices posted in our classroom.
