Mrs. Brown's 5th Grade Classroom

Welcome 5th grade students and families!

Welcome! I am so excited to be teaching fifth grade here at Canyon Creek Elementary School! The community here is amazing, making this such a great place to learn and teach.

Let me start by telling you a bit about me. I grew up in the Everett area, so the northwest is near and dear to my heart. I’ve rooted for the Mariners and the Seahawks my whole life! I went to WSU for my undergrad (GO COUGS!) and then went to Seattle University for my Masters in Teaching. This is my seventh year teaching. My first two years I taught in a remote village in the bush of Alaska, called Kotlik. There were no roads or cars, but lots and lots of snow! Then I moved to a slightly more populated community in Alaska to teach in a one room schoolhouse, as the only teacher. I had students in grades K-5. Unfortunately, due to lack of funding, the school had to close. At this point I was ready to move back home to the mild weather of Seattle. I then taught in the Edmonds School District for a couple of years, before moving to Canyon Creek in 2016. I am so happy to have found a home at CC as a fifth grade teacher!

While this year will have its unique challenges, I know our class will come together to make it a great year filled with discussion, exploration, and laughter. Building a community in our classroom is really important to me. It’s a part of what makes each year so different and amazing. I cannot wait to meet all of you, so we can begin creating our community and learning together!

Canyon Creek's 5th Grade Northshore Learns 3.0 Schedule

All lessons and assignments for a subject will be posted by 9am on the day that subject is assigned. You'll find these lessons on the Online Learning page.

Students are still encouraged to continue to use all of the resources provided to them, regardless of the lessons assigned. If a student has completed all lessons for a subject, there is still plenty of options for them to continue to push their own learning! This is a great opportunity for students to figure out something that they enjoy learning about and do their own research and exploration! (Some ideas are below in the teal box.)

While we are away from the school building, you will have access to all of the resources you had access to this year.

*All Science Weeklies have been turned on for your enjoyment. I've added Social Studies, too!

*TCI is available for you to read and respond to.

*iReady has math and reading lessons and games for you to log in to.

*Manga High is available for math and coding lessons and games for you to log in to.

*Prodigy is another fun math site. I added a link on the Math page.

*You are welcome to continue researching the Maya, Aztec, and Inca on your own! They are really interesting!

*Library resources are available on the Reading page for you.

*Email/text/call each other! We are social creatures who need each other to be happy mentally and emotionally!

*I'll continue to add resources to this Google Sites page as I come across fun tools and sites!
