After doing a test run this last week and getting some feedback from students (thank you!) I've decided to move my lessons to Google Classroom. Use the Class Code: 4o4es2y. I was hesitant to change platforms in the middle of the semester but it seems like many other teachers are on Google Classroom and students like having all their work in one place. I also like how it uses due dates and your calendar to keep everything organized. I hope this is not an inconvenience for anyone and helps to make our "distance learning" easier.

Good morning everyone! This week we continue our unit on right triangles and we have reached one of the most important topics that we cover all year...trigonometry! I love trigonometry, it's applications and uses are endless, spanning many, many different areas of mathematics. But in Geometry we will start with the basics. Trigonometry sounds scary, but it's really just about ratios. Ratios of the side lengths of right triangles. That's it! In the videos I made below, you will learn what trig ratios are and how to find them and, more importantly, how to use them to solve problems.
I want to continue to remind students that you need to be checking yourself into attendance on the WHS website for each class period (find links to the attendance page and weekly schedule above). This is very important as it confirms your participation. On top of that it's extremely important that you complete the assigned "learning check" each week as well. This provides both you and me with feedback on your progress and it's also the proof of participation I need to give you a passing grade this semester.

Good morning students! We are back at it, continuing our unit on right triangles. Last week we reviewed and practiced something that I think many of you were already familiar with, The Pythagorean Theorem. But this week we are going to find some shortcuts! Everyone likes a good shortcut. We will look at two specific types of right triangles and learn how the properties of these triangles will allow us to find missing sides quickly, without having to use the Pythagorean Theorem! As usual, I have a list of tasks and activities below. Work through these this week (as you have time) and be sure to complete the Special Right Triangles Learning Check by the end of the week to prove your participation and get some feedback on your progress.

Good morning students! I hope you all enjoyed your spring break and were able to take advantage of the nice weather. This week we will officially begin Unit 9 which will cover right triangles and eventually right triangle trigonometry. The topic for this week will be the Pythagorean Theorem.

Good morning students! Well, we're back. I hope you are making the most of this time and are at least enjoying this time with your family. We are moving back to "Distance Learning" this week and I'd like to use this week to finish Unit 8, our unit on similarity and similar figures. Next week we will be on Spring Break and when we return we'll begin our next unit on Trigonometry. Please keep in mind that the remainder of the year will be "Pass/No Credit" and will be based on participation only.

Good morning! Just one instructional video for you today. In your assignment, you will continue to practice problems with similar figures but in the video we will look at diagrams that have overlapping similar triangles and I will demonstrate some techniques for writing and solving proportions using these types of diagrams.

Good morning! Please check out the instructional videos posted to the left. The first video explains what dilations are and how to draw them on the coordinate plane. The second video explains what it means for any two shapes to be similar and also what shortcuts exist for triangles to be similar and how we can use proportions to find missing side lengths.
