What AVID is:

AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a nonprofit organization who's mission is to close the opportunity gap by providing schools with tools to help shift to a more equitable, student-centered approach so students can be prepared for their post high school life.
AVID teaches students organization skills, helps students develop their reading, writing, and inquiry skills as well as, builds students capacity for collaborative learning and more rigorous academic courses.
AVID IS:
Research based, with proven results of student achievement
A direct support structure for first-generation college goers
A catalyst for systemic reform and change

AVID at Kenmore:
Here at Kenmore, teachers from all content areas are trained in AVID strategies which provides a school-wide AVID experience.
We offer the yearlong AVID elective to 7th and 8th-grade students.
AVID School-Wide:
Provide students with consistent expectations and language across KMS
Teach WICOR strategies* - an instructional model that guides students towards deeper comprehension.
Provide KMS students with more opportunities for success toward their post-high school goals
AVID Elective:
Teach skills and behaviors for academic and social success
Provide intensive support with tutorials and strong student/teacher relationships
Create a positive peer group for students
Develop a sense of hope for personal achievement gained through hard work and determination

The AVID Elective: La Electiva de AVID
The AVID elective might be right for you if:
You are determined and have a desire to learn
You work hard, but your grades don't reflect your effort
You're getting A's or B's in class, but are still scoring low on the SBA
You have needs that would be best supported by AVID - language, financial, first time college goer, home support
You have special circumstances that are impacting your chances of success and you need help getting back on track
La electiva de AVID puede ser adecuada para usted si:
Tienes determinación y ganas de aprender
Trabajas duro, pero tus calificaciones no reflejan tu esfuerzo.
Obtienes A o B en clase, pero aún obtienes un puntaje bajo en la SBA
Tiene necesidades que podrían ser mejor apoyadas por AVID: idioma, finanzas, estudiante universitario por primera vez, apoyo en el hogar
