Alaska Social Studies: Exploring the state’s history, cultures, and geography — from the Gold Rush and oil pipeline to Indigenous traditions, wildlife, and natural resources. Connecting the past to the present through maps, artifacts, and the stories of the land
About Me:
Years Teaching: I have been teaching for over 19 years. I began my career at Wasilla High School, where I taught English and Reading. From there, I moved to the elementary level as a Resource Teacher, focusing on building strong reading skills and supporting students in literacy. Eventually, I found my home at the middle school level, where I now teach Social Studies — a subject that lets me combine my love for history, geography, and storytelling.
Favorite Subjects: Reading, Writing, Geography, ancient civilizations, and anything involving maps!
Fun Fact: I was born and raised in Alaska!
Outside of School: You might find me gardening, baking, or traveling with my family — and this year’s adventures were epic! I explored Germany this summer, soaking in its rich history and culture. Then I hit the road on a cross-country trip from Boise to Wisconsin, sampling delicious cheese, spotting “jackalope fever” in Wyoming, and visiting the iconic Mount Rushmore.
Why I Teach Social Studies: I love helping students see how the past connects to their lives today — and how they can shape the future. I’m also hosting our school’s Travel Club this year, giving students the chance to explore the world, starting with our Spring Break 2026 Italy Tour.
