Thank you for visiting Finger Lake’s website and the principal page! I am so blessed to lead the Falcon family. It is a privilege serving this community and I look forward to continued growth, memories, and good things! My name is Susan R. Steele, and I am your community school principal. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Special Education, Master’s of Education in Elementary Education, and an Education Specialist degree in Administration and Supervision. I started my student teaching in 2005 and have been a certified teacher since 2006. I began in the classroom in East Tennessee supporting struggling readers. I absolutely loved seeing my students grow, learn, build confidence, and develop into young men and women. My husband, Andy, and I moved to Alaska in 2009 for an adventure and we never left! I worked as a Special Education Program Manager traveling to Alaskan school districts across the state ensuring compliance for all eligible students with disabilities. In 2010, we moved to the valley where I worked in the Office of Instruction for the Mat-Su District Office as an Instructional Coordinator. In 2014, I joined the administrative team at Palmer High School where I served as an Assistant Principal. In 2015, I joined the Falcon Family at Finger Lake.
I am passionate about creating and implementing structures and systems that support students to be successful. I believe communication is crucial to any successful organization and including families and parents as our allies is an absolute necessity. We believe in continuous improvement and we are always looking to grow. If you have feedback for us, please don’t hesitate to share your thoughts.
Andy and I have been married since 2006. We currently do not have children of our own. I enjoy using my time to support the students and staff I work with at school. I look forward to working with your student, family, the staff, and community of Finger Lake! Please come see us anytime!
