Each year, the Superintendent develops a proposed budget for presentation to the School Board. The budget is built over several months and reflects projected revenues, anticipated costs, district priorities, and community feedback.
The School Board reviews the proposal and takes action on a balanced preliminary budget. That preliminary budget may be adjusted if revenue assumptions change before final adoption. The adopted budget prioritizes spending aligned with district goals and ensures resources follow students.
This website is maintained throughout the process as a resource for the community and a central location for information regarding the Mat-Su Borough School District’s FY27 budget.
The FY27 Preliminary Budget Reductions FAQ provides information about the district’s current budget outlook, the proposed reductions under consideration, and the timeline for Board action.
School consolidation scenarios are included as part of the administration’s FY27 budget recommendation. The School Consolidation FAQ provides additional information regarding the process and considerations.

Stakeholder input matters. Earlier in the process, the District gathered feedback through the Budget Priority Survey and the Balancing Act budget simulator.
While the Budget Priority Survey is now closed, individuals may continue to share feedback in two ways: by using the Balancing Act budget simulator or by submitting the MSBSD FY27 Preliminary Budget Feedback Form.
All comments, simulator submissions, emails, and form responses received during the budget development process are reviewed, compiled, and shared with the School Board prior to budget action and final adoption.
