AK Coastal Studies
Alaska Coastal Studies at Peterson Bay
Few places in the world have as rich a living laboratory as the Peterson Bay Field Station on the south shore of Kachemak Bay. The rich intertidal areas of Peterson & China Poot Bays are known for the diversity of life exposed by extreme tides and are a short distance from the front door. Trails wind through the coastal forest at the back door.
The Peterson Bay Field Station has three rooms downstairs- a central room, a mud room and a kitchen. The central room is used for classroom discussions and quiet time. All meals are served and eaten in this room. A wrap around deck has two shallow observation touch tanks with flowing salt water stocked with a variety of marine life to explore. Our bunks will be in cozy, heated yurts surrounding the Field Station.
