My name is John Doherty and I am running for Los Rios Student Trustee. After two semesters as a director of ARC’s Associated Student Body, I have an appreciation for the importance of student representation. In this role, my top priority has been to make myself accessible to students so I can hear their concerns and advocate on their behalf. This approach is essential to effective representation, and the student body needs someone with this philosophy in the district office. To ensure that I’m accessible to all students attending a Los Rios college, I plan to distribute flyers with my phone number and email at each campus because I believe this is critical for proper representation.
With these values in mind, I have already started to represent the Los Rios student body in the district office. Last month, I worked on a district committee with administrators to return restaurant services to all Los Rios cafeterias. After 2 months of evaluation, we secured a contract that will, by this Fall, offer high quality food, sustainable dining, and affordable prices at FLC, SCC, CRC, and ARC. I plan to continue this work if elected as a trustee. Thank you for your consideration and I urge you to vote for John Doherty as Los Rios Student Trustee.
I am currently Secretary of Public Relations on the Clubs and Event board here at SCC. I have taken classes related to policy work such as communication and administration of justice courses along with others that allow me to not only gain relevant experience but also interact with students and staff on campus. In my time in student government, I have participated in activities like lobbying for mental health resources for college students at the state capitol and sitting on an impressions panel to help select our next college president. My experience is invaluable to me and a huge part of why I am seeking this position and I hope to keep improving so I can be the best asset possible to the students I represent.
Although I enjoy my position on the Clubs and Events Board and planning meaningful activities for students, my greatest interest is in policy work. Moving from the Clubs and Events Board to our Student Senate is how I can work on what I am passionate about which is making sure that Sacramento City College is a campus that hears what every student needs and works to help them get it. My interest in policy stems from my interest in helping people and that is what I will do if elected as Student Senate President.
Currently serving on student senate as Secretary of the Senate. I like being engaged as a leader and serving, as well as being the best academically I can achieve.
Hello! My name is Desiree Jauregui, my pronouns are she/her, and I am running to continue my work as your Secretary of Legislative Affairs for Sac City’s Student Senate. A little over a year ago from today, I launched my campaign to run for Senator. At that point, I had no idea what to expect from joining student leadership; I’ve had some experience in the past, but never at the collegiate level. Once I got elected, I was beyond excited and couldn’t wait to start serving.
I went into last semester with an open mind and allowed myself to get involved in anything I could. From promoting civic engagement and literacy during the local election season to attending my first professional conference with my peers and other community college student body associations in San Diego, my first year in office helped strengthen my leadership skills and molded me into a more compassionate and understanding individual, characteristics I believe are important to have in any leadership position.
This semester, I was appointed to become Secretary of Legislative Affairs for the Student Senate. I took my newly developed passion for higher education advocacy, along with the students of Sac City in mind, to the state capitol and helped coordinate the Senate’s successful participation in Los Rios’ Lobby Day. Additionally, I’ve assisted with the council’s efforts to recruit more students to join student leadership to ensure we’re having a student voice representing each position available on our board. This will remain one of my main priorities, should I continue my work in the Senate.
Along with a more engaged student body, I plan on continuing to promote civic engagement and literacy on campus and look forward to collaborating with elected officials to assist with these efforts. With your vote, I’ll be able to continue promoting Sac City student’s views on all policy and legislative issues to local, state, and federal officials, staying up-to-date on current legislation impacting our students, and making this institution a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment of learning and experience. Thank you!
I, Safiya Peragallo, will be a good Treasurer for the Student Senate of Sacramento City College because I have always had an interest in finance. I have a keen eye for detail and tracking how money is budgeted. As a young woman who doesn’t live with her parents, I always keep watch on my savings, checking and spending limits per month. I believe I would be an excellent Treasurer because I could replicate my own organizational and budgeting skills that I use in my own life to Sacramento City College. I also have outstanding communication skills which I believe is essential in working with the other members of council to ensure the most organized and effective council possible.
My reasons for seeking office is to try something new, and having the ability to put my skills to work. I am a member of the SCC basketball team. I am also interested in the clubs such as art and BSU.
I am currently the Secretary of Public Relations for the Senate. I also was also class president in high school for all four years. I am seeking office to be able to better the lives of our students as well as continue to develop as a leader. I am a pre-med and pharmaceutical chemistry major. Currently I am also a hospice volunteer as well. Outside of academics I love to read and weight training.
Education is the key to building upward mobility and positive social change, so every student at SCC must have an equal opportunity to succeed. As the Secretary of Outreach and Development, I would take a step towards achieving this by researching education-based policies to implement at our school, serving as liaison to underrepresented student populations, promoting and leading philanthropic efforts, and promoting a community-oriented mindset. My former roles as a volunteer teacher have given me the skills necessary to meet the student population's needs, and I'm confident that my efforts will improve the quality of education.
I am currently the President of the International Students Club. With this position, frist of all, I know how to recognize and evaluate the student body needs, therefore, within two active semester, I have organized activities, events and workshops that benefit not only international student body but also other student bodies at SCC. Moreover, I have the chance to work with SCC staff, faculty and professors. Therefore, I've learned a lot about paper works, work procedures and work ethic.
I am also volunteer as International Student Ambassador for the International Student Center. I help the center with preparing and organizing event, days such as Orientation Day and other important events, making posters and promoting. With this position, I also have the opportunity to work and communicate with a lot of students, which helps me to improve my social and soft skills, moreover, the flexibility and understanding when working with people in a community.
To sum up, throughout this journey, I encourage student participation in events and programs that acknowledge and value the diverse racial and cultural backgrounds of the college community and help people better appreciate those differences.
I seek for office as to first improve my leadership experience. I believe that with the improvement and development in leadership and office experience and skill, I would be able to contribute much more to the college community.
Secondly, I want to raise my voice for the international student body.
Last but not least, I want to experience as much as I can in different working settings and environment, which contribute to my insight, exposure and diversity.
[I am] seeking political experience and extra curriculars for application to a four year university. [I enjoy] cooking, traveling, gardening, reading, writing, tennis, soccer, skydiving.
This is my second year at Sacramento City College, and in the past two years I think I have a basic understanding of the school, so I would like to seek a job in the senate to further help build the college. I'm also looking for a leadership position, and I think this would be a good opportunity to exercise myself.
In the community life, I participate in the science in the museum volunteer activities, I like to let more people, especially children, learn about science and fall in love with science. I worked at school as a tutor in math and chemistry, and I enjoyed helping others with their studies.
Hello, My name is Kyle Felver and I am running for Clubs and events Board president. And you are probably Wondering why of all people you should Elect me as president.
Ever since I was a child I wanted to make a difference to the world. Leave my mark to the world. Our time is short on this earth.
Ever since I joined this college I knew right away that there is one clear problem. Communication. Every student leader towards the public need clear communication on what's happening with the school. I want to change that. Let everyone know what's happening with the school
As you know, most of you don't know me personally. Some of you do, but I am always interested in what people have to say and will not without a doubt help people in need. I am always eager to support anyone unconditionally. People have questions, I answer them to my best ability.
I have over 10 years of community volunteer experience.
Vote for me as Clubs And Events Board President.
I have almost always been in leadership positions for different programs. Ever since middle school, when I was my school leadership’s Vice President, I have been able to express my opinions and help better the environment I am in. I have also been President in my church group for a couple of years; I created and planned activities for the Youth program and made sure there was equality within the group.
My reasons for seeking office as President of Clubs And Events Board are to get to know my College’s community better as well as allow myself to use my leadership skills to better my school. I want to introduce myself to people around me at Sac City since I haven’t been able to truly get a good in-person introduction to the school (since I take mostly online classes). I want to be able to have a say in choices that will create a welcoming environment for upcoming students as well as students who haven’t been able to get a chance to feel a part of the community during their year(s) at Sac City. As a member of the Clubs And Events Board, I will make it my top priority to create a welcoming and exciting environment at Sac City College by making plans for school-wide events and clubs that will help connect students and put a smile on their faces.
As someone who is passionate about community involvement and making a positive impact, I believe that I would be an excellent candidate for the secretary of equity and diversity role. I come from a culturally diverse background and have collaborated with people from a diverse background which has allowed me to learn to communicate effectively in a team setting, developed cultural competence, and enhanced cultural awareness. Although I have no prior or direct experience for the specific role, I am open to learning and can easily adapt to new roles. Additionally, my energetic attitude, critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and collaborative skills would enable me to manage projects successfully. Above all, I am deeply committed to making a positive impact in the community, and I believe this role would allow me to participate and contribute in a relevant way.
