Dear Los Rios Students, My name is Aesha Abduljabbar. I have attended American River College for three years, and I am majoring in English. Hoping to become a Human Rights Lawyer. My term as the Student Senate President for American River College is coming to an end, but I still have a lot to accomplish and more students to hear. That is why I decided to run for the Student Trustee. The pleasure of serving ARC students can't be described with words, neither the amount of joy can be measured, but it can greatly be felt, and reflected in my leadership. Now I want to serve Los Rios students. I don’t want to only be your Student Trustee, but as well as your friend. I will be here to listen to each individual's concerns, and goals for each campus. While being the ARC Student Senate President, I have learned how to advocate for the students. I lobbied in the State Capital for SB 291 which will allow students to get emergency funds. I worked closely with the Student Advisory Committee to address students' concerns about Aramark. I chair weekly meetings, as well I am part of the Executive Leadership Team, the Student Advisory Committee, and the Chancellor’s Cabinet Committee. If I get elected as Student Trustee, I want to continue the work of bringing awareness to students' gender pronouns in classrooms. Every single student should feel at home, and included when they are on campus. I want to see more departments on the four campus’s use stipend, this will allow undocumented students to have equal job opportunity like other students. Thank you!
Hello Los Rios Students! My name is Dahlia Morquecho, and I am running for the position of Student Trustee. I have served as a Student Senator, Secretary of Technology, Secretary of Legislative Affairs (coordinating Lobby Day & General Assembly Legislative Session), and now as Vice President at Sacramento City College.
My top priority is to ensure student success and degree completion by addressing the obstacles students face when trying to attain their education. As a first-generation college student and a woman of color, I understand the importance of having an equity minded representative who is community focused and inclusive. It is vital to recognize the disparities between one student and another - not everyone has the same access to resources that others may do. If elected, I plan to work together with our Board of Trustees to continue to address basic needs such as housing and food insecurity which continue to impact our students. I also plan to address social issues that may impact Los Rios students in a sensitive and compassionate manner. My goal is to empower students by realizing that they are capable of fomenting change and become the next generation of leaders.
My name is Miles E. McAnulty, I am running for this position to help my fellow students who feel like their voices are not heard. Personally, I know what it feels lik to have an administration that has control over every facet of you college life not care about you or your health. That is with the advent of the Covid-19 and the administration's delayed response. As a Political Science major, I am taught to some degree about how to understand organizations and therefore am running to help those who would not have help and to gain much-needed experience in an administrative position.
Let us bring change as one!
My name is Toni Schiffmaier, and I am running to be your Student Trustee, because I am passionate about student representation and basic needs. I make it my priority to serve the students by being a strong advocate for elevating the student voice in system-wide decisions and planning, and I have experience doing this on local, regional, statewide, and national levels. I am a Pre-Law double major in Business and Psychology. Over the last year, I have worked with other students in the CCC system to make an impact in our communities, on our campuses, and in our legislation on topics such as homelessness, hunger, financial aid, mental health, and more. However, there is still much more we need to do. For this reason, if elected as student trustee, I would like to work on three priorities: 1) increase the basic needs services (food pantries, rapid re-housing resources, clothing closets, etc.) on our college campuses, 2) increase the health services (mental health, hygiene products, health counseling, etc.) for our students, and 3) prioritize amplifying the student voice in decision making on all levels through our legislation, on our committees, and in college planning. Through my service on local, regional, statewide, and national levels, I have the experience necessary to serve in a position such as Los Rios Student Trustee. Locally, I helped to establish the Basic Needs Committee, served as the Chair of Constitution and Bylaws Committee, served as the Founder/President of the FLC Business Association, and worked to promote student equity and success on my college campus. Regionally, I served as the Region II Treasurer (helping to represent 13 Community Colleges) where I worked on several projects, including advocating for financial aid, homeless students, basic needs, mental health, and more. On the statewide level, I helped to create statewide student senate policies, reactivated the statewide Women’s Caucus, wrote the Statewide Expansion for Basic Needs Resolution that passed, served as the statewide Guided Pathways Student Representative, and more. More recently, in response to COVID-19, I served on a national initiative to increase access to virtual mental health services on college campuses across the U.S. Overall, I would be greatly honored to serve as your Student Trustee. Thank you for your time, and thank you for your consideration.
Dear students, hopefully, this message finds you very well. My name is Zain Ali and I am currently a second-year student in Los Rios community college district. My majors have changed variously from the time I started my college journey 2 years ago and along with it have my involvement with students. I started with an undecided major and then computer science and now concluded with Economics and Math being the best representative of my career goal of a businessman. I among my peers started college with no involvement and that has completely changed from last year. I got the opportunity to not just be a voice of students but also be in the forefront of understanding and solving real problems of students. Be it through Hawk Spot (food pantry) or from just walking around campus, I have involved myself close to students. Students’ needs are to be addressed and advocated at a higher level than just the Associated Body of each campus. Although my time as a Student Ambassador, as a Student Senator, as Chair for Communication Committee and Vice-Chair of Legislative Committee has been filled with moments of great impact. From standing up against Armark’s cafeteria monopoly to lobbying at the capital for higher financial aid, each action increased my determination to impact more which is why my next step for me is Student Trustee. As a Student Trustee, I can advocate for students with higher impact and responsibility. I believe If a student, any student, has any problem despite any time or the current status of the world, the problem has to be solved because it's the students that will shape the world with education. I wish to be the change we all want to see in our journey through community college.

First and foremost, I would like to thank anybody working in the medical field right now and those stepping up to help. This is a time where we need to make sure people working receive our thanks and appreciation more than ever. We are all stressed right now and I know I am personally. I am glad that I get the opportunity to run for president of our student government, a position I think has the potential to set a standard. As president my goal would be to work with associations on campus both big and small and students—putting on social events and fundraisers. We need more presence on campus and together with my peers I would help ensure students are aware of the association and the advocacy opportunities that come with it. I think we simply don’t do enough as a student body so I would focus on improving this. Most importantly though, I want to lead with kindness, organization and ol’ fashion determination.
I am applying for the vice president of the clubs and events board because I would like to create a stronger sense of community on our campus. Since I have been involved with the clubs and events board, I realized that many students are not aware of this committee and that there is a lack of participation as well. As the vice president, I am hoping to gather more voices and see more students get involved in our school. I believe the lack of involvement is the biggest problem. Currently, we do not even have enough members to fill all the officer positions. Also, when we plan for events such as the club day, it is up to the few people in CAEB to decide all the details about the event. I do not believe it is the best way to plan an event, and more participation will definitely help split up the work in between us. By becoming the vice president, it will be a great opportunity for me to promote participation in student leadership. I will serve students with passion. Thank you.
I am running for Treasurer for the Clubs and Events Board (CAEB) for the 2021-22 school year because I would like more time to complete tasks that I have begun this year. In my time as the Treasurer, I have experienced how student fees are put to use. I would like to enact more policies that protect and guide the use of that money, so that every student benefits from every dollar spent. I would also like to continue to encourage students to get involved with clubs and activities on campus for their own enrichment.
Hi! My name is Gabi Stewart. This is my first year at Sacramento City College as a full-time student. Currently, I am a Global Studies major with intentions of going into the business world. Within this year, I have met countless students and teachers that have demonstrated their passion for learning and teaching. Sacramento City College has quickly become a community for me. During this fall and spring semester, I have been an active member of the Student Senate where I have had the opportunity to vote on decisions regarding student advocacy. I am the current Secretary of Student Senate and work my hardest to ensure that records are accurate and professional. I believe that my previous experience as Secretary would be an asset in helping meetings run smoothly and efficiently, as I have already been trained. I have detailed knowledge in how our record keeping systems work, and I am passionate about fostering an environment where everyone has equal opportunities to learn. Community colleges are such important institutions that have always been leaders in the field of equity and serving the public. As a student leader, I promise to make decisions that reflect the sentiment of the greater population. If elected as Secretary, I would continue learning and putting all my effort into creating positive change.
I am Alexandra Athon Diamant, and I am running for Secretary of Public Relations. I believe that I will be able to serve the Sacramento City College student body well as Secretary of Public Relations as I both live in and take classes at the Davis campus, take classes on the Main Campus, and am a Writing Center Tutor at the West Sacramento Campus. From actively being on all three SCC campuses, I have been fortunate enough to have established relationships with my peers, instructors, and staff at each campus. Being a tutor has taught me how to effectively communicate with my peers, coworker, and supervisor. Gaining these communication skills allows for me to be able to communicate with our student body, gather and value their opinions and ideas and put my best foot forward to actively involve students from all three campuses in SCC Student Senate, fundraising, and campus events.
Another opportunity that I have gained from being a team member at the WSWC is putting out social media content on our instagram page (my work is in our highlights). This has given me a platform to create, play around with colour and design, and interact with students through a different medium. Creating interactive and appealing advertisements and information is something I enjoy and take pride in. Reaching the student body through interactive advertising whether on or off campus will be a priority of mine in hopes of increasing student input and turnout.
As Secretary of Public Relations, I want to cultivate and emit visible and accessible ways for our student body to be heard and represented in our Student Senate, fundraising, and campus events.
Thank you, AAD
If elected as Secretary of Sustainability, I plan to further sustainable culture on campus by putting in the work to help improve the eco-friendly options and healthy resources available to ALL students on campus. It is also important to provide educational opportunities to students, on and off campus, in which provides an opportunity to a new way of thinking. I will continue to research, and network with students, clubs, staff and organizations to establish a correlation to plan and provide solutions that will benefit and improve the quality of life for students. And now that Sacramento known as the farm-to-fork capitol, it is important follow that path of agriculture on campus. The continuance of the collaboration with the Paw Panthers Food distribution is VITAL for students; AND it is important to bring alive the idea of a culinary program along with on-campus gardens. Being that I come from a socioeconomically disadvantaged background, I didn’t understand the importance of a sustainable healthy environment and lifestyle. With the involvement of my peers, we can work together to create a equitable and healthy environment on campus, not just for the now, but for future generations to come.
Who?: Hi, I’m Omair and I’m running for the Secretary of Technology! I’m a Network Engineering major and I’m the person your parents ask to help install “the Internet” after they’ve given up asking you.
What?: I’m going to run and maintain the club websites and communications systems. We can do better to help folks understand what clubs are doing and when they meet. In the future I’d like to help clubs host their websites easily with SCC and help them keep up to date on maintaining mailing lists so they can recruit new members.
Where?: Since we can’t really campaign during a pandemic the usual way, why not DM me your tech questions on Instagram/Twitter @omque and you can get a sense of how I help folks with their tech problems!
Also visit my website at omair.club where in all of 15 seconds you can see:
1. How I think tech people should talk to people who don’t get technology. (GIF)
2. Some tech tips for working remotely from home. (URLs)
3. A cute picture of my cat+dog+goat. (JPEG)
When?: Vote in e-Services at the top starting April 21!
Why?: No one seems to be doing this job right now, I’m good at this kind of organizational/service work, SCC needs someone like this to help other students, and the seat has been vacant this semester so why not continue for next year?
I want to get involved more in the college. I would like to be a voice for social issues impacting the student community at Sacramento City College, especially international students.
I was involved in Student Government at SCC in 2009-2010 with Anna Joy and Phi Theta Kappa. I’ve worked on several election campaigns. I did a lot of voter registration. I want to see Student Government at SCC be more open, transparent, and easier to join.
