Cosumnes River Archaeological Working Lab

Cosumnes River College Archaeological Working Lab (CRAWL) was founded in 2012 with the goal of providing an archaeological lab experience for community college students.

Located at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento, California, CRAWL maintains a small research lab and is part of the Department of Anthropology.

Currently we are working through a large orphaned collection of artifacts from a 19th century site in Sacramento, California spanning from the 1860s to the 1880s. So far we've learned quite a bit about what people ate at the time, their social class, occupations, and the neighborhood in which they lived.

Students interested in applying to work in CRAWL, including application requirements and deadlines, can find more information on our Department of Anthropology website.

Our Spring 2018 Semester Lab Class

This collection from the "Enterprise Hotel Site" is curated at the California State Parks State Archaeological Collections Research Facility and comprises around 50 boxes of artifacts. So far we have analyzed and re-cataloged about 25% of the collection.

On this website we share some of our work with the collection and also our student blogs and alumni profiles. Additional information can be found on the CRC Anthropology Department website, Facebook, and Instagram. Thanks for stopping by our page!
