Teacher Resources
We are here to help!
So what can a Media Specialist do for you in your class? That’s likely going to fall into one of the following categories:
Research support: In 2021(the era of misinformation) it should be painfully obvious that researching via googling can lead to poor results. Students absolutely need to know how to access process and communicate the right information from all of the available things online. I am available to co-teach research skills using tried and trusted techniques. Do you want someone to come in and help kids search effectively? Do you want someone to help with citing sources? Do you want someone to provide quality feedback to students as they begin an inquiry project? Do you want someone to give feedback on research questions that students are working on? Pick me. I am available throughout the day to help in your class or outside of class. Please just reach out.
Online Tools: rahsmedia.org is a great tool to get trusted information into your kids hands. You should be directing your students to try rahsmedia.org before googling and using online sources. Here’s why? The materials on our website(books, magazines, newspaper articles and reference sources) are indexed, organized, fact-checked and written at a reading level that our students can access. Things on the internet are, well, not that. Please also come in during the day to use our hands-on materials(books, magazines, computers) to access process and communicate information. I’d love to introduce or come in and support your class as you use these resources.
Stand-alone lessons: I offer a variety of lessons on topics including censored literature to the CRAAP system for determining what's real from what's fake online to SEL skills and restorative practices. I have been a Rule-114 trained mediator and can support as you work with students in dispute, trained as a circle keeper and have been directly involved in developing the RAHS Restorative Justice program. I love to help with teaching relaxation techniques as well like meditation, focused breathing, journaling, and relaxation techniques. I want to work with your kids and I just need to be invited in to help.
The Media Center is also available to circulate your textbooks, answer your technology questions and integrate tech skills in your class. You know Jaimie Crandall is also available to help with a variety of other skills. Please feel to reach out to any of us to help with your work.
