Grading: This class will use a traditional points-based grading system. Although tests and quizzes will be worth the most points, the consistent nature of assignments and warm ups will also have a significant impact on a student's final grade. Therefore, students should complete warms ups and assignments on time and to the best of their ability.
Late Work: Work that is turned in past the due date (except for excused absences) will still be accepted but the maximum score a student can earn is 80%.
Absences/Make-up Work: Students are encouraged to speak with me ahead of time before a planned absence. I will work with the student to ensure timely completion of work.
Personal Devices: Students may not use personal electronic devices in class (unless a student is using his/her own computer in class). Please remember the policy for personal devices at HCMS is "No Cell, bell to bell". This also applies to smart watch technologies. Students should only be using technology as instructed.

All school policies that are found in the Middle School Handbook also apply in our science classroom. Here are some additional norms and expectations for the class:
Come to class ready to learn and participate. The more you get involved, the more you'll learn and the more you will enjoy school
Treat everyone in class with respect. Science includes the process of building understanding. When we work to understand, sometimes we make mistakes, change our minds, or even disagree. We still need to be respectful and kind.
Use your planner every day to write down activities, assignments, and homework (if there is any). The better organized you stay, the more success you'll have! Once you get scrambled, it's a lot more work to get back to where you need to be.
Be a good teammate. In science we often work with others. Be mindful to participate in discussions and in group and whole class activities. Everyone grows together. The more you engage and participate, the better school experience you will have.
Take your learning seriously. This means staying organized, asking questions when you don't understand, participating in activities, and putting forth your best effort.
