School Shout Outs/Good News:
Thank you to Mrs. Barnabei for letting kindergarten attend a Medford game!
Thank you to Ms. Ivens in Kindergarten for planning a great field trip and helping us to plan all of our end of the year activities (open house, screening….)
Thank you to Mrs. Pleasants, Mrs. Stringer, Ms. Soares and Mrs. Barnabei for understanding all of the new things we have been tasked with this year and NOT walking around with clipboards and checklists and calling us out if we are struggling.
A shout out for the phone app for entering the building and also for enabling the doors by the atrium to be opened with our phones or fobs.
Congratulations to Dr. Gretz!
Thanks so much for taking the time to share the good news and encouraging words!

Any chance we could get a mobile eye doctor to visit school like the mobile dentist?
I will look into this and report back through this committee.
Many teachers feel unheard when it comes to the amount of things added to our plate during the school day. The day isn’t getting longer and we keep adding to our schedule. Last year it was the morning meeting, which most of us like, but we lose 10-15 minutes of instructional time everyday. This year it is the knowledge part of CKLA. It is boring and too much. I am not debating whether it works or not, but it is way too much, especially in kindergarten. There is a fair amount that is not part of the SOLS and many of us feel like we would rather spend more time doing a thorough job on the SOLS rather than what feels like just throwing information at children hoping they catch it. The expectations of our 5 year olds are getting higher and yet these kids are just 5. While we know the state dictates a huge amount of our curriculum, there is a bit of wiggle room. We want to be heard.
Thank you for the feedback. I have submitted this to Mrs. Barnabei who indicates this has been a topic of discussion in recent PLC meetings in the school. She will continue to follow up with the grade levels.
Concern about the difficulties with PowerSchool. Parents struggle to get into it as it is not user friendly. Teachers have no idea what the report cards look like. We have to re-enter grades EVERY nine weeks. It is hard to look back at the previous comments/grades. This does not seem to be an issue in other districts. The system has a lot of glitches and slow speed during report card times. We want to work smarter, not harder. Please help us.`
We will investigate how other districts are handling this. My experience in the few in which I have served has been similar to ours in Fluvanna, but if there are other divisions that have adopted better solutions we will absolutely consider those.
Why does the division not get long term subs for IAs that work with gen ed students, yet IAs that work with SPED students do receive coverage when out for long periods of time.
If IA’s are required through IEP accommodations, substitutes for those positions are also required. The decision to avoid other long-term subs for IA positions is a financial one. When there are extenuating circumstances, we certainly will work to support those needs.
