Note from the Director:

We are very excited to be performing Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins this summer with the Fairmont Opera House! This show is a personal favorite of mine, but it is also one of the more complex and detailed shows out there. As such, we will need more than just actors! We will need singers and dancers and a TON of behind the scenes help working to create all the magic that goes into bringing Mary & Friends to life.  Please take time to read up on each of the areas of production that you might have an interest in. At this time, the cast list is closed. Thank you to all who auditioned! We have a whopping 68 people in this summer's show! Hopefully, your questions will be answered here, but if not, don’t hesitate to reach out to the Opera House. Most importantly, pull up your calendars and block off the last week in July, 2024! We will see you at the show!

VOLUNTEER COMMITTEES

So…what if I don’t want to be ON stage, but I would love to help with all the extras?

That’s GREAT! Here are several specialty committees that create the visual effects of the show. If you are interested in helping, please contact the Opera House at info@fairmontoperahouse.org and let them know you would like to help in a specific area. We will forward your name and info to the committee heads and they will reach out. Please accept my VERY GRATEFUL THANKS in advance!

Costuming - Tamarae Schmidt

Far beyond the “usual” costumes, this show has everything from stone park statues to the Chatterboxes, the brightly colored gabbers in the Supercal number. Designing, creating, and sourcing all of our amazing costumes is going to be an exciting challenge, and one that has a significant impact on the quality of the show.

Set Dressing - Tamarae Schmidt

There are literally DOZENS of very important set dresses and pieces in this show. It takes place everywhere from a naval ship to a living room to a storefront to a park to the rooftops of London…and we will need SO MANY items.  If you have interest in scouring thrift stores and attics for treasures, this is the committee for you - contact Tamarae for a wish list of items.

Magic - Jay Schmidt / James Miller

As you know, Mary is *MAGIC*. We have a few tricks up our sleeve, and would love to have anyone interested in helping create and stage some of the more magical elements of this show come on board to assist in the design, creation, and staging that brings them to life.

Set Painting/Build - Jay Schmidt / James Miller

This set is a monster - in the best possible way, of course. We are going to need many hands to make it light work. If you have a few hours to donate to the build and painting of the set, please reach out.
