Schoology will be used to allow parents and students to keep up-to-date on course activities. By the end of the first week of school, all 8th grade Global Studies students will be able to use their school Google account to access their class period's Schoology page for all of their in-person, hybrid, or virtual learning needs. Students will be able to use the calendar feature to access upcoming assignments, tests, and activities, as well as to find make-up work when needed/available. If you or your student have any questions or concerns regarding finding information on Schoology, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Students who miss a day of class can find paper copies of any missing work with their name on it in their class' folder at the back of the room and will often be able to find electronic copies on Schoology. It is advisable for students to make up all missing work within two days of an absence, as they will quickly fall behind, but students will be allowed to turn in work and corrections on work until the last day of the unit. I will put this date on the whiteboard in class and on Schoology.
If a student misses class for a band/choir/orchestra lesson, (s)he is responsible for filling out an absence card and leaving it on my desk at least 24 hours before the lesson. (S)He will need to get notes from a classmate and make up any missed work.
When reading Skyward, you will find that each of the Power Standards is listed. Students will receive scores from 1 to 4 for each of the summative assessments they complete for each Power Standard. The description of the event will indicate what the assignment was, with the details providing information on exactly what the standard is asking students to be proficient in. Please ask your child or email me if you have questions about what exactly that particular assessment was. Also, remember to expect early scores to be lower, as students will show growth and repeat work in each of these standards over the course of the school year.
Scores of 2 and below indicate that your child has not yet met grade level expectations for that standard assessment and it will be flagged as "missing" until revisions are made and (s)he/they can demonstrate such understanding. In addition, any assessments that have an asterisk (*) in Skyward will also be flagged as missing - this indicates that an assessment has not been completed and/or turned in.
Please feel free to email or call me if you have any questions or concerns about your child's current grade.
