❔ Questions for Mr. Dockter
Something is going to come up...and when it does, the BEST way to reach me is via email @ cdockter@everettsd.org
Based on your email, if a phone call or face-to-face meeting is needed, we can make it happen. We are on the same team, and I want to work with you to make your student's year as profitable as possible academically, emotionally, and socially.

🆘 How Can I Help My Child
No one knows your child as well as YOU do, so there are no firm concrete rules that apply to everyone, but here are some "strong suggestions" which will help most kids achieve at a high level...
Your kid needs SLEEP...seriously. Make sure they get 7-9 hours a night. Anything less, and they will be dragging. You won't see it until they get behind on a project or when they don't score well on a quiz, but I will see their low energy EVERY DAY...
Ask to physically SEE the work they tell you they have completed. They will ALWAYS tell you homework is done, but you KNOW better...Always ask to SEE it...
Encourage high EFFORT over PERFECTION. Effort can be seen by teachers from a mile away...but so can LACK OF EFFORT.
Regularly keep track of your student's grades in each of their classes. You can track their student grade from your smartphone. Watch the video below!

🧠 ParentSquare
In addition to using Canvas Calendar to keep up with assignments, I will continually throughout the year send out reminders and announcements using ParentSquare. The district AUTOMATICALLY adds both students AND parents/guardians to those messaging list so the whole family stays up-to-date with what's hapening in class.
Messages can be viewed via text, email, or via the ParentSquare app. It is YOUR preference!
🏫 Missing Classes + Make Up Work
From a student perspective, there is nothing worse than attempting to "make-up" work as a student, especially for multiple classes at a time. From a teaching perspective, fully re-creating in-class teaching activities or conversation for students who are absent is unfortunately not possible. Make it a point to be here...whenever possible...
If a student misses any time in class, the student needs to take responsibility to talk to me directly. I will do my best to fill them in on what we did (Again, I can't FULLY recreate all class activities...).
Students will have one additional day per EXCUSED absence to turn in work.
On large projects which have been assigned ahead of time with a firm due date, students will still be expected to turn in the work remotely via Canvas even if they are not in class on the due date itself (unless student has spoken with Mr. Dockter PRIOR to the due date.)
🕔 Submission Expectations + Late Work Policy
We are consistently moving on with content, and students will STRUGGLE understanding new content if they don't fully understand what just happened prior. Our assignments move throughout the year like story... and you can't understand Chapter 4 if you didn't read Chapter 1-3! It is CRITICAL that your student stays on top of ALL their assignments.
Students have access to the class syllabus from their Canvas page. Please refer to the syllabus for more SPECIFIC expectations for Late Work.
