They practice and perform regularly throughout the year, and work towards events such as the KBB Music Festival in August, alongside the Epsom Orchestras. All students at EGGS who play an instrument are encouraged to join one of these groups.

-CHOIRS-

The Epsom Choirs are our vocal music groups, open to all students interested in learning about singing. They sing music from many genres, and play an important role in leading school singing. They practice and perform regularly throughout the year, and work towards events such as The Big Sing Choral Festival in June, as well as joint concerts with choirs from other schools. Whether you are interested in singing pop music or jazz, musicals, or classical music, the Epsom Choirs are a great place to enjoy singing together.

-ORCHESTRAS-

The Epsom Orchestras are our classical instrumental music groups, open to all students who play an orchestral instrument.  They are regularly performing at events within and outside of the school, and make appearances at the KBB Music Festival, alongside Epsom Bands. They perform music from around the world, include plenty of music from Aotearoa, and have been recognised for high quality performances on such music. All instrumentalists are encouraged to join one of these groups.

Epsom String Ensemble

Miss Mannering

This group was formed to give an opportunity for ensemble playing to less experienced string instrument players. This group is not auditioned, and any student who plays the violin, viola or cello is encouraged to join this group, no matter how much (or little) experience they have.

Epsom Chamber Music Groups

Miss Mannering

Tuesday After School

EGGS has a proud tradition of chamber music, with many students participating in the NZCT Chamber Music contest in June. Instrumentalists and classical singers are encouraged to participate. There are no auditions, but experience at a Grade 5 level would be greatly beneficial.

-CONTEMPORARY MUSIC-

Epsom Contemporary Music gives students the opportunity to form their own bands. These bands are encouraged to enter Smokefree RockQuest. Epsom Contemporary Music also gives students the opportunity to write and record original songs to enter in the Play It Strange competition, for the chance to have their song professionally recorded. There are no auditions, but prior experience playing an instrument or singing is beneficial for your experience.

The Contemporary Music programme at EGGS is led by Miss de Koster, who is also our Drum Kit itinerant tutor.
