AP Exams are to display end-of-course, cumulative content mastery. Take the AP course first, then take the AP exam in May. Sign up in the fall for May exams.
Doing well (passing with a score of 3, 4, or 5) allows you the chance to earn college credit for your work while in high school.
Join the AP class section online by October 31.
Be sure to select YES to take the exam in your College Board Account.
Each AP exam is $64.00. Late fees will be added as of November 1, 2025. East Ridge High School encourages every AP student to take the AP exams. Exams will cost $18 each for students eligible for Free or Reduced-Price Fees. Students requiring other financial assistance should contact Ms. Beth Salmon, East Ridge Advanced Placement Test Coordinator, esalmon1@sowashco.org, before ordering to learn more. Late fees are added as of November 1, 2025.
AP Studio Art Portfolios are "exams" that need to be paid for just like other AP exams.
Refunds? If a student changes plans, the exam fee is refundable through November 14, 2025. After November 14, an $18 refund per full-priced, cancelled (prepaid) exam is available. (Late fees are non-refundable.) No refunds available after March 1, 2026.
Cancellation notice: Students eligible for free/reduced price fees- if you sign up for an exam and do not show for it in May, additional fees will be applied to your student account to cover the $40 per exam cancellation fees assessed by the College Board.
Absolutely no orders can be placed after March 1, 2026.
Students do not need to join their AP course on their College Board account more than once for each AP class. When you join your AP course in your College Board account, you make a selection (YES/NO/Undecided) about the AP exam.
Your College Board account and your ERHS Total Registration account need to match up exactly. You need to use the same email address for both accounts. Use a personal email address so you will still be able to get email from the College Board if your school account is closed after high school graduation.
Use the exact same name for yourself on both accounts. Use your full legal name. If you are called B.J., but your whole name is Brandon James, be sure to put in as many letters of your full legal name as will fit in the allotted spaces. If you have multiple last names, enter as much as will fit in the spaces in both Total Registration and the College Board.
To complete the payment process on ERHS Total Registration, students must answer all of the required questions. We strongly recommend that parents and students are both present while completing the process to ensure that the correct exams are selected. Once you pay for your exam(s) on ERHS Total Registration (step 1), open your College Board account and enroll in your AP course to order yourself your AP exam (step 2).
Note: the overwhelming majority of our students choose to take an AP class with one of our teachers rather than complete the study and exam preparation via independent study. Independent study AP is rare.
AM exam arrival time: 7:30 am
PM exam arrival time: 11:45 am
Please note that exam start times are before school begins. Likewise, some exams may run past the end of the school day. Students will need to plan their transportation and work schedules accordingly. We cannot dismiss students early from exams.
Exams will be held in the Gym and the Wrestling Room at ERHS. Students can expect a reminder email from Ms. Salmon with final room locations prior to testing.
Students must indicate through their My AP Account the college or university they’d like to receive their free score report. This is especially important for college-bound seniors.
The deadline to indicate or change your free score report recipient through My AP is June 20, 2026.
Watch this one-minute video from 2020 or view the screenshot to see how and where students can request their AP scores reports to be sent to a college.
After June 20, there is a $15 fee to send your AP scores.
AP has a recognition system: AP Scholars. Students who pass multiple AP tests during their high school years may be eligible for various levels of recognition as AP Scholars. For more: AP Scholar Awards
Studies show that simply by taking an AP exam, regardless of score, students are more likely to do better in introductory college classes, and are more likely to graduate from college on time. In addition, students may be able to receive college credit, based on their exam scores.
