This is a project that works for EVERYONE! It can be as easy or as elaborate as you want to make it.

Step 1: DISCOVER! Go outside and find a rock that is a size and weight that you can pick up and carry inside. Bring the rock inside.

Step 2: NAME IT! Name your rock. Your rock can have a name you have heard before or you can create a name. Introduce your rock to your family so they know it is special and should not be taken back outside without checking with you first. You may want to make it a name tag.

Step 3: CREATE! There is no limit to what you can do with your rock. If you like to write, write stories about adventures your rock goes on. Is there a place you have dreamed about going? Do research on that place and pretend your rock gets to visit there or have your rock visit a place you have already been so the rock can share in some of the same experiences you have had. Create a graphic novel with your rock as the main character- is it an adventure story? a mystery? a sci-fi thriller? a realistic fiction? Do you like to draw? Design clothes for your rock. Be sure to include outfits for different experiences and different climates. You want your rock to be prepared for whatever it encounters. Do you like to build? See what you can find to make a place for your rock to live or a vehicle for your rock to get around in. Maybe your rock is going to soar off into outer space and needs a space craft. BEFORE USING ANYTHING YOU FIND AT HOME, ASK A GROWN UP IF YOU CAN USE IT TO CREATE.
