AVID 7th and 8th students get unique field trip opportunities to visit and tour different college campuses in the Twin Cities. Some examples of colleges students have toured: Hennepin Technical College, University of Minnesota- Twin Cities, Metro State University, and more!
Our 7th and 8th grade students also have an opportunity to visit the Park Center Career Resource Center at our adjoining high school each trimester.
Throughout the year AVID students are able to hear from a variety of guest speakers. Some examples include: their grade level counselor and administrator, current high school students, current college students and community members.
AVID Students are leaders in the building at BMS. They help support our staff at conferences and during our STEAM Creativity Fair. Throughout the year our AVID leaders provide tours to interested families as well as new students.
Volunteer opportunities within the building are also available to our AVID students. Some examples of this are: supporting the success of our Bulldog Bingo building event and participating in and leading events at our school's Multicultural Fair
AVID 7th and 8th graders also help create a sense of community with our 6th grade students through various activities in Advisory.
AVID Students frequently collaborate to complete various engineer design challenges through our STEAM Magnet programming. They practice their inquiry skills as they design, test and revise their various projects together. We also have a large focus on creating a sense of belonging in our AVID classroom.
