All fourth grade students have an opportunity to select an instrument in the spring before fifth grade and everyone is invited to Join the Band. The students' desire to succeed and the motivation to practice consistently will determine success on an instrument. Students are encouraged to practice as many days as they can per week for 20 to 30 minutes each session in order to learn the skills needed to play their instrument. Home practice is the foundation of our program.
Instrument selection is based on the student's personal choice, physical characteristics (jaw structure, lip formation, hand and finger size) and the instruments needed to provide a well-balanced band. Mr. Santori meets with students in March of fourth grade to help them select the instrument they will play in band in fifth grade.
These instruments are rented or purchased from a music store unless you already own one. All three music stores come out to our school district each week and have rental plans to make insturments more affordable. These store rented/purchased instruments will be delivered to school in the fall and your the rental payments will begin in September.
