As more systems are connected with your district-assigned account, it is more important than ever to have a secure password to protect yourself from unauthorized access to those resources. Following are options you can choose to set your a more secure password. Key changes from the previous rules include:
It is strongly recommended to use a passphrase* as your password in lieu of a simple word or even random characters/symbols
* A passphrase consists of combining multiple unrelated words randomly generated using an outside source (vs. you choosing the words) and can include spaces.
The Good News: There is no longer a requirement to change the password every 120 days! However, it is highly recommended to change your password if you suspect others may know it.
The Less-Good News: The password must be a minimum of 15 characters long
Follow the steps below to quickly and easily generate your passphrase.
Click HERE to generate a password. (Authentication may be required.)
NOTE: This site runs locally on a district server and never stores information generated so is safe to use!
Make note of the new password. If you don't like the currently displayed password, click the Generate New Passphrase button to get a new one.
By default, it will provide a 4-word passphrase. You can increase the level of security by changing it to a 5-word passphrase.
Practice typing the new password a few times to commit to memory and increase muscle memory speeding up entering it going forward.
If you feel the need to write it down so you don't forget it, BE SURE TO STORE IN A SAFE PLACE! However, a better option is to utilize an electronic password manager tool (e.g. KeePass, Password Safe) to keep track of your various passwords.

Don't forget to also reset the password on your personal mobile device(s) if you connected it to district email!
If you would prefer to take a more manual approach to generating your passphrase to ensure it is only known by you, the following steps walk you through a manual process to create a truly random passphrase.
Open this Word List in one browser tab
Open Random.org's dice roller in another browser tab
NOTE: You can use actual dice instead to truly randomize it and keep it offline. If so, it is best to have 5 dice (dig out that old Yatzee game!) to speed things up but can also be accomplished with a single die rolling 5 times per word.
Make note of the 5 numbers generated by the dice roller
Go to the word list tab opened in step #1 above and find the number that corresponds to the 5-digit number noted in step #3
HINT: To significantly speed up locating the 5-digit number in the word list, bring up the Find option in your browser (typically CTRL+F for Windows and Command+F on Mac) and enter the 5-digit number
Make note of the corresponding word. This is the first word of your passphrase
Go back to the Random.org tab and click the Roll Again button. Repeat steps 3 - 5 adding each new word to the previous one until you have a minimum of four words in your passphrase. However, it is recommended to have five or more words for a more secure passphrase.
Make note of the new password (adding spaces between words increases the level of security)
Practice typing the new password a few times to commit to memory and increase muscle memory speeding up entering it going forward
If you feel the need to write it down, BE SURE TO STORE IN A SAFE PLACE! A better option is to utilize an electronic password manager tool to keep track of your various passwords. Free options include KeePass and Password Safe.
