Hello! My name is Tanner Walters and I have worked at Oak Ridge Elementary School since 2017 as the STEM/Inquiry Specialist. I also worked for 3 years at an outdoor STEM school in Faribault as a 6th grade teacher. Before that, I've worked for 2 years as a special education paraprofessional with ISD 917. During that time as a paraprofessional, I finished my masters in Elementary Education at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.
What attracted me to Oak Ridge was the leadership, health, and environmental sciences theme. I believe the outdoors is a natural way to excite students about school and connect what they are learning to things found in our backyard. Giving students the tools to be leaders increases their confidence, happiness, and mindset around learning. With these skills it creates an environment for healthy, caring students that are ready to lead our globalized world in the right direction.
I live with my wife (Mallori), daughters (Nora and Hannah), and dog (Bella) in Lakeville. We enjoy going for walks, boating, watching movies, and experiencing new things (food, places, events). I love reading fantasy books, coding, and woodworking. I also like learning about the newest technology. I hope to create my own original program someday through computer coding.
