The Maud Hart Lovelace Book Award is a children's read and vote book award. Its purpose is to encourage recreational reading among school-age children in Minnesota. At Woodland, students in grades 4 and 5 who have read or listened to at least three titles from the Division I nominee list are eligible to vote for the Maud Hart Lovelace Award. Students vote for a favorite title, then ballots are submitted to the Minnesota Youth Reading Awards by March 31 each year. The award is named after Minnesota author Maud Hart Lovelace (1892-1980) who grew up in Mankato. Learn more about her here.
At Woodland third grade students who read three of the nominated books and prove their reading by March 13, get to vote and have a popcorn party in March!
Fourth and fifth grade students who read all 10 of the nominated books and prove their reading by completing a five-question form for each book by May 1, 2026, will be invited to a special pizza party celebration toward the end of the year.
