Animal Communication

Animals communicate with each other but it's not always verbal! Watch the video and observe all the non-verbal ways the Japanese macaques communicate.

Nimbus (also known as The Big Floof) is a sweet 2 1/2-year-old girl from Wisconsin. Wild chinchillas are found in Chile and are endangered. Nimbus is a smart girl and has been trained to come to a target for her favorite treat of peanuts. She also LOVES a good chin-chilla scratch!

Oakley, one of our resident animal ambassador opossums, would like to bring a little bit of the Zoo to your home.

Predator Vs. Prey

Learn from zookeepers, Trinity and Jean about the definitions of predator and prey. Use this information to decide:

  • Is the animal a predator, prey, or both?

  • What evidence tells you if an animal is a predator or prey?

Also, meet some animals that live at the Minnesota Zoo.

The Minnesota Zoo’s Math and Science (ZOOMS) Program provides students the opportunity to apply important science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) concepts to real-world situations using the Minnesota Zoo as a context. These mini-challenges will focus on Engineering FOR Animals (exhibit design), Engineering FROM Animals (biomimicry), and Engineering BY Animals (animals as engineers).
