Cabarrus Arts Council Brings Nouveau Sud

On Tuesday, November 28, the entire 8th grade class had the opportunity to experience Nouveau Sud as part of the Cabarrus Arts Council School Programs.  Nouveau Sud, which is based in Charlotte, is a contemporary circus that focuses on social issues. The name Nouveau Sud means the “new south”. They use dance, acrobatic, spoken word, and physical theatre scenes to tell their stories. Most members of the performance group were local and had a variety of training under their belts. After their performance, some members of the group spoke of how it took one to two years to develop and prepare a show like the one they presented to the 8th grade. I asked members of the journalism newspaper staff to give their thoughts and opinions, so here is what a few students had to say:

“I liked how they used movement to represent the hurt of people affected by gun violence and death”.  –Josselyn

“It was very impressive”. –Rylan

“They seemed very dedicated to their performance”. –Krystal

“Pretty cool acrobatics”. –Brayden

“I thought the show was good and would love to see it again. “ –Mekhia

“I think that the whole performance was very impressive. The amount of time that it takes to learn all of that is insane. Each person did an act that they had to trust themselves doing.” –Cheyenne

“I thought it was a little weird but it wasn’t a bad show.”--Malachi
