HELLO FUTURE PATRIOTS!
We are excited to meet all of our future Patriots! We have compiled all the essential information to help guide you through the necessary steps for a smooth transition to middle school. Each section below will walk you through the steps to completing the items on the Family To Do List.
ENCORE REGISTRATION
Students be entering their Encore requests into PowerSchool with the help of their 5th grade teacher. Students will be given a copy of the Registration Worksheet on Wednesday, April 10th and should turn in the completed form to their homeroom teacher by Friday, April 12th to help guide the process. Please understand the choices indicated are your final Encore selections for the 2024-2025 school year. Due to scheduling demands and course availability, students are not guaranteed placement in any classes and student schedules cannot be changed once they are created.

Ms. Kessler- 6th Grade Counselor and Ms. Williams- 6th Grade Adminisrator will be visiting students to provide them with an overview of middle school, answer questions and help them to complete their Encore Registration. Families should return completed Encore Registration Worksheets prior to this visit.
POWERSCHOOL PARENT PORTAL
PowerSchool Parent Portal is a valuable resource that allows parents/guardians to monitor their students' academic process by accessing real time student data including: grades, assignments, missing work, assessment scores, attendance, and student schedules.

*Please note that PowerSchool Parent Portal ID letters and setup instructions will be sent in early September once the portal can be accessed for the 2023-2024 school year.

*Optional: In math class, students utlize a Texas Instuments TI-30XS calculator. Some students have found it helpful to own the same model for use at home.
Students will carry their backpack with them throughout the day rather than using lockers. If you are looking to purchase a new backpack, check to be sure that it will be large enough for all supplies!
Donations of tissues, paper towels, hand sanitizer and Lysol wipes will also be needed.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Arrival
Students may enter the building beginning at 8:40 a.m. The bell rings for them to be in homeroom at 9:00 a.m.
Lockers
Students no longer use lockers at Harris Road. Students will carry their belongings in their backpacks to and from class.
Chromebooks
Students will be assigned a Chromebook at the start of the school year. Students should bring their charged Chromebook and charger to school each day.
Students are responsible for taking care of their Chromebook and follow the Acceptable Use policy.
Teams
Students will be placed onto one of the three 6th Grade Teams. Students on the same team will have the same teachers for their 4 core subjects: Math, ELA, Social Studies and Science.
All teams are balanced and serve EC, 504 and AIG students.
Homework
Homework varies for each class. 6th grade students will be required to read 20 minutes each night for ELA and will typically have a math assignment. Students who do not finish an assignment during class time are expected to complete it for homework.
Schedule
Students will have 4 Core Classes and 2 Encore classes each day. When it is time for Encore, the whole grade level will travel to the Encore hallway.
Transition Time
Students wait for their teachers to dismiss the class and will transition to their core classes by lining up outside the door of their next class.
Students have 4 minutes between classes.
Breakfast
Grab-and-go breakfast is available for all students in the cafeteria each morning.
Lunch
Each grade level has a separate lunch time. You will travel to the cafeteria with your team. Each team is assigned a designated seating area in the cafeteria.
There are 2 lunch lines. One features a homestyle meal and the other offers fast food and grab-and-go type meals. Fruits, veggies and drinks are available in all lines.
Dress Code
These are some basics of dress code:
Skirts and shorts must be mid-thigh in length.
Shirts must cover the midriff, no plunging neck lines, and straps must be 2 inches or greater.
Pants must be fitted at the waist.
Clothing cannot be see-through or expose undergarments.
No pants with holes or tears above fingertips.
Mobile phone usage is not permitted.
Headphones and earbuds are not allowed in the hallways. No cordless earbuds are permitted.
More detailed information will be available in the student handbook provided at the start of the school year.
Cell Phones
Student cell phone must be turned off and put away in backpacks upon entering the school. If there is a reason that a student needs to contact a parent during the day, they can ask the teacher for permission to call.
Dismissal
Dismissal starts at 4 p.m. Car riders are dismissed first. Students who ride the bus will remain in their classes for a few moments until the second announcement is made.
Teachers will walk their class out to the bus lot.
