ABC's of Kindergarten
Allergies- Please make sure your child's teacher is aware of any allergies your child may have.
Attendance- Children are required to attend kindergarten each day. A doctor's note or a written excuse from the parent is required following any absence. Attendance is so important!
Birthday Celebrations- If you want to invite children from the class to a birthday party, we will be glad to pass out invitations if everyone in the class is invited. Celebratory food items may be shared at school as long as they are commercially prepared/purchased.
Book Bag- Please no rolling book bags. Check your child's book bag daily for important information. Please put your child's name on his/her book bag.
Breakfast- Breakfast is served from 7:25-8:00 a.m. in the cafeteria. The cost for breakfast is $1.25. Children arriving late to school will not be able to eat breakfast unless they are on a late bus.
Buses- Bus riders will ride only assigned buses. Students must be registered prior to becoming a bus rider. If your child is a bus rider, his/her transportation home from school cannot be changed without a written note to his/her teacher or a phone call documented through the office.
Conferences- Parent conferences will be scheduled as the need arises but I am always happy to meet with you at any time. Other means of communication include Remind, notes, telephone calls, and emails.
Confidentiality- What you share with us in confidence remains so. Your child's school record is also confidential. We will only discuss your child's academic progress with you.
Discipline- See hand-out (Classroom Rules)
Envelopes- Please send in all money transactions in an envelope labeled with his/her name and what the money is for.
Folders- Your child will receive a dark green folder. This is a heavy duty folder that will last all year. This folder is one of the ways we communicate and send items back and forth between school and home. Please check your child’s folder every Tuesday.
Guidance- Mrs. Becky Ross, our guidance counselor, is available upon request. She also meets with the class throughout the year for special guidance lessons with her pet bunny, Sunny.
Homework- The most important thing to know about homework is to read to your child and with your child each night. Talk about the stories: discuss characters and how they feel, discuss the beginning, middle, and end, discuss the problem and solution, etc. I will send home math sheets almost each week. They will be sent home on Mondays to be completed on or before the next Friday.
Information- Please inform us, as well as the office, of any changes of address or telephone numbers throughout the school year.
Journals- The children will write in journals throughout the year. These have been purchased and they will come home at the end of the year filled with your child’s writing.
Key to Learning- The MAIN key to learning for children is having someone read to them every day and show interest in their activities. Please be involved in your child’s academic endeavors.
Lunch- Our class goes to lunch from 10:40-11:05 everyday. The cost of lunch is $2.25 per day or $11.25 a week.
Lunchbox
If your child brings a lunchbox, label it with his/her name. Also, please only send or pack items that your child can open independently. We will be sure to let you know if your child is struggling with opening anything during lunch.
Lunch Money
Parents are encouraged to sign up for online lunch payment. Please let us know if you have any questions about setting up your child’s online account.
Money- ALL money needs to be put in an envelope with your child's name. Also, please specify what the money is for (example: field trip).
Nurse- Mrs. Carmen Bailey will dispense all medication, inhalers, etc. to students. There is a form to fill out if this service is necessary. Please see Mrs. Bailey if you have any questions or concerns.
Outside Play- We go to recess each day. Please dress your child accordingly. If it is above 32 degrees we will go outside and your child will need a coat. We plan to have a short morning and afternoon recess.
Progress Reports: Since kindergarten grades are standards-based, we only issue report cards at the end of each nine weeks. If you have any questions about your child’s progress then please contact your child’s teacher.
PTO-Our PTO supports our school in a variety of ways. Parents and teachers work together for our childrens’ sake. We encourage all family members to get involved.
Quiet Time- All children need some quiet time daily. We will provide a few minutes of quiet time after lunch, but we do not take naps.
Report Cards- Your child’s report card will be sent home at the end of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th nine weeks. Reports will be emailed to emails listed on your child’s PowerSchool account. Check the district calendar for the exact dates.
Seesaw- We will be using the Seesaw app as a form of communicating student work/activities with parents. We will provide information on how to do this. Seesaw allows for both private and classroom communications. It is very user friendly and your child will be using it in school to share his/her work with you. Without this app you will be missing important information and classroom events.
Tardies- Children who enter the classroom after 8:00 AM will be marked tardy. Children who are tardy miss instructional time, as well as disrupt the class. You will have to walk your child in and get a tardy slip if your child arrives after 8:00 am.
Transportation- Changes in regular pickup MUST be in writing and given to your child's teacher. Please place these in your child’s take home folder. Please give the name of the person picking up your child. Identification will be checked. If a change in transportation for your child occurs after the school day begins, please call the school at 850-3987.
Usual Attire- Comfortable clothes and tennis shoes are the best attire for a child to wear to school. Please have your child wear tennis shoes when he/she has P.E.
Visitors- The school's policy for visitors is strictly enforced. Please refer to Anderson One Covid Protocol.
Water Bottles- Your child may bring a water bottle to school. We do ask that you only send water in the bottle. Please do not add flavoring because it could stain or attract bugs. If sending in a water bottle is not for you or your child, we will have one-time use cups in our classroom that they may use.
Xtra Activities- Your child will attend Library, Art, P.E., and Music each week. Activity time is 11:55 to 12:35 each day.
Young Children- Young children are capable of performing chores at home. These chores encourage independence and raise self-esteem. We will be encouraging independence and self-help skills in the classroom throughout the school year.
Z-Z-Z- Please make sure your child gets appropriate rest each night.
