Grading: Student’s work will be graded according to South Carolina Department of Education grading scale. Students earn minor grades and major grades that calculate their class average.
A= 100-90, B= 89-80, C=79-70, D= 69-60, F= 59 or below
Minor: Classwork/Homework/Quizzes (50%)
Major: Test (50%)
Absent Work/Make-up Policy: When students are absent, it is their responsibility to ask for work missed. Students can view Google Classroom, ask a classmate, and email their teacher(s). Work must be made up within 5 school days. Extra copies of materials are stored in the classroom.
Behavior Policy: All student behavior expectations set forth in the Palmetto Middle School Student Handbook are upheld in my classroom. Below is an overview of PMMS's Demerit Code of Conduct.
Level I - Disorderly Conduct - Any activity engaged by student(s) which impedes on orderly conduct of classroom procedures and instructional activities, school operations, school sponsored activities, and school provided transportation.
Level II - Disruptive Conduct - Any activity engaged by student(s) which are directed against persons or property that tend to endanger the healthy and safety of oneself or others in the school.
Level III - Criminal Conduct - Any activity engaged by student(s) which result in violence to oneself or another person or person's property or which pose a direct and serious threat to the safety of oneself or others in the school which interrupts the safe operation of the school.
Classroom Norms:
Prompt - Be on time, find your seat quickly using the shortest route possible, and follow the agenda on the board.
Prepared - Always have your materials for class including a charged Chromebook.
Productive - Stay on task, follow all directions, and participate in class activities.
Polite - Respect yourself, peers, teachers, and administration.
Persistent - Be tough! Continue working until you get it!
Consequences: Discipline will be handled using the school wide policy of issuing demerits.
≤4 demerits - consultation with an administrator will be held and a letter mailed home
8+ demerits - consequence determined by administration
12 demerits - 2-4 days of ISS assigned per 12 demerits accumulated in one semester
*Please note some behavior issues may be escalated to an administrator and immediate removal from the classroom depending on the situation.
