First Meeting August 21st at 6pm - Trinity Church in Tuckahoe
We’re a growing group of girls from across the Richmond area who love adventure, service, and having fun together through Scouting. As an all-girls Scouting America troop for ages 10–18, we focus on leadership, community service, outdoor skills, and STEM—all while working toward the prestigious Eagle Scout designation.
Our troop is girl-led, meaning the scouts plan and run their own meetings and activities with guidance from supportive adult leaders. We meet weekly during the school year, go on monthly adventures, and participate in special service projects and summer camps. Whether you're new to scouting or looking for a troop that fits your schedule and interests, we’d love to have you join us!
Our troop is all about learning new things, building friendships, and having fun while making a difference. Here are just a few of the things we love to do:
Get Outside: Camping, hiking, rafting, and exploring nature together.
Serve Our Community: We volunteer at local food kitchens, support diaper drives, and help with community gardens and community events.
Tackle Big Goals: From earning merit badges to planning our own adventures, we’re always working toward new achievements—including the path to Eagle Scout.
Build Skills: We love hands-on learning, especially when it comes to cooking over a campfire, planning trips, or diving into STEM projects.
Travel Together: We go on monthly outings and summer trips as a troop—whether it’s camping in Virginia, visiting D.C., or choosing a summer camp in another state.
Have Fun! From adventures to game nights and creative projects, we make space for fun in everything we do.
We’re a troop that supports each other, challenges each other, and celebrates each other. Whether you’re already an experienced scout or just curious about getting started, there’s a place for you here.
Each scout must pay the $170 fee to Scouting America which covers national and council dues. There will be some small fees for additional activities (like food for campouts, etc). However, we plan to do some fundraising and have some generous financial support from Trinity Church to help us. Your scout will need the uniform which is about $100 in all but they can wear them for multiple years. Scouting doesn't change the uniform so it's good until you grow out of it. They will also need the handbook (about $20). For 5th grade it's Arrow of Light and then they get the Girl-specific Scout Handbook once they go to 6th grade.
Scouting requires at least two registered, background-checked adults at all activities—one of whom must be female. We currently have three female leaders (myself included) who rotate to ensure this standard is always met.
Adult-to-child ratios vary by activity, and while we follow Scouting America’s guidelines, we often have more than enough adult support. That said, we encourage parents to complete the background check and Youth Protection training so you can help out if needed—especially for carpools or as an extra adult at meetings.
Weekly meetings are drop-off. Since the girls are really "running" their own meetings there is not much for parents to do. As leaders we're more steering the conversation and talking through things. For example, if the girls are planning a menu for an upcoming camping trip, as a leader we are saying things like "what equipment do you think we need to cook this?" "How do you think is the best way to store this while we're traveling?" etc etc. You're completely welcome to come to these meetings but truly, not required.
For the monthly adventures, we do have to honor the scouting america adult:child ratios and will additionally usually ask for an extra adult or two for redundancy. That said, with the current size of our troop, we will typically just need 3 adults (this includes leaders) for camping trips. Extra parents are always welcome, but not required.
Occasionally we’ll ask for small donations (like paper plates) and send out a SignUpGenius. If you have a special interest or want to get more involved, we’d love to have you—there’s no pressure, but the door is always open!
Scouting is what you make of it. While we encourage active participation to help the group stay connected and grow together, we understand that life gets busy. As the girls get older, they’ll often pursue achievements and service projects that reflect their individual interests. It's totally fine to take time off for sports seasons or skip a camping trip—there’s plenty of flexibility to make it work for your family.
