For decades, Philippine politics has been shaped by dynasties, celebrity candidates, and voting patterns driven more by old-fashioned belief and popularity than by principles or performance. That is why most of the Filipino citizens start to believe that Gen Z voters are the greatest key to our democracy. But why is that? Generation Z—equipped with smartphones, sharp critical thinking, and an insatiable hunger for truth—is emerging as a formidable political powerhouse. Refusing to simply inherit the outdated habits of voting based on name recognition or party allegiance, these young voters are raising the bar. What is the evidence? Today, a new force of young voters, known as Generation Z, is demanding accountability, transparency, and tangible results, signaling a profound shift in how political power is contested and earned in the country. By abolishing or refusing long-standing dirty principles like political dynasties, they are helping to create a fairer and more balanced representation in the Senate and House of Representatives. 

In recent years, Generation Z (born 1997–2012) has taken on an increasingly influential role in elections, bringing tech-savvy, socially conscious perspectives to the forefront. In the Philippines, their impact is undeniable: by the 2025 elections, around 21.87 million Gen Z voters—28.79% of the electorate—are registered, a sharp rise from 13.11 million in 2022.

 As more young voters continue to register, their numbers—and influence—only grow. With this rising power, they stand out for their sharp critical thinking and informed mindset, approaching the ballot with greater care and knowledge. Their thoughtful, knowledge-driven approach is rapidly reshaping the country’s political landscape.

The reality is clear: the consistent support to the candidates propped up by celebrity status, political pedigree, or manufactured media narratives is often glorified as champions of the people, even with their questionable dealings, rude behavior, and dirty businesses that are conveniently swept under the rug. Generation Z is not just participating in politics—they are redefining it with a level of awareness and sophistication that older generations might have consistently failed to demonstrate due to old-fashioned practices during elections. Crossing out the name, recall, party loyalty, or sheer popularity, Gen Z is unapologetically committed to making informed, evidence-based choices. They dig deep into candidates’ track records, scrutinize policies, and prioritize issues that have real, lasting impact on their lives and communities.

Generation Z is breaking the cycle of uninformed voting by backing candidates with solid track records and meaningful platforms. Figures like Kiko Pangilinan, known for agricultural reforms, and Bam Aquino, who championed free education, Republic Act 10931, are top Gen Z picks. They vote deliberately, aiming to secure these leaders a place in the Magic 12. In contrast, other communities or groups of people still favor candidates like Camille Villar—political dynasties—choosing them based on popularity and empty promises, such as the unrealistic “house and lot for everyone”, yet forgetting the basic needs of the people in Cavite, the water supply.

But it is not too late! As the 2025 elections draw near, it is undeniable that Generation Z holds the key to reshaping the nation’s political future. Their unwavering commitment to truth, accountability, and informed decision-making stands in sharp contrast to the complacency and blind loyalty of past generations. Gen Z has proven that they are not just passive observers but active participants ready to dismantle outdated systems and demand leaders who truly serve the people.
