1986 was deemed to be the year of golden success.
But the Filipinos are no fools. They are not to be deceived by those who plan to erase history and revise what the books can offer. So they marched with the pound of drums in 1986, with millions of other people protesting with placards, which were written in red, with the words, “Suko na! Talo ka na! Layas na!”.
This was the start of one of the most historical events in the political history of the Philippines. The EDSA People Power Revolution of 1986 stands as a defining moment for millions of Filipinos, a testament to the unbreakable spirit of a caged nation and the pursuit of freedom and democracy to voice what is needed to be heard and void all deceivers of their platforms.
What started as a response to the spreading discontent against the 20-year tyranny of a dictator, specifically the 1986 Snap Elections that declared Ferdinand Marcos winner against opponent Corazon Aquino led to the breakage of stifling chains against what felt like a never-ending fight against freedom for two million Filipinos.
The Filipinos were indeed no fools. But as the years progress and people are getting older, why is there a sudden need to revise what is written in history?
A new challenge arises. One that may break or make history once again.
Will the people be strong enough to uphold the cultural impact of EDSA People Power Revolution, or are we going to allow history to be erased from the books that once taught us freedom?
Thirty-nine years since the fight to be uncaged, the Filipinos are now painting the murals once again. With red-painted letters, the words “No to Cultural Revisionism” stands firm on the walls. Serving its purpose as a reminder that history is not and was never meant to be revisioned and changed to satisfy deceivers once again. The colors that dignify EDSA People Power Revolution still echoes, urging new generations to safe-guard the truth and confine deception where it belongs.
Because the Filipinos are no fools. They are not going to be deceived by those who still plan to erase history and revise the same books that stand as a testament to freedom.
