A saint is a person who is acknowledged as someone who has a high degree of holiness and is close to God. They lived a virtuous life then are now persons in heaven.
On All Saint’s Day, the Church honors all saints, not only those who have been consecrated, or officially had their holiness proclaimed by the church, but those whose names are present in the church calendar and their biographies read from the Synaxarion (The Life Of Saints), but are also the unknown ones, as there are many unknown saints to us, but are known before God.
This event shows the Filipino culture for being family-oriented and it pushes people to gather with their loved ones who are still living and to honor and remember those who have passed away. While, other churches celebrate it by memorializing the loved ones who passed last year and giving thanks to those who come before them, especially those in their community who passed the faith down to them and established the church congregation and building. Individually, there are people who light candles, bring flowers to cemeteries, and paint tombs. It can also be celebrated at home by serving a little feast.
TRIVIA
DYK: Since the beginning of Christianity, people have honored the dead. In the seventh century, Pope Boniface IV reportedly established All Saints' Day. Many saints have their own feasts observed on certain days, but this day is to celebrate all of the saints who have died and reached heaven.

“Nagsing-awit ang mga anghel sa langit!” —Ben&Ben
Our Lord, Jesus Christ, was born on this day. We celebrate this day in remembrance of all the sacrifices he made to atone for our sins and demonstrate our complete confidence in him.
We've only just begun the holiday vacation!
On the 6th of December, 1896. Jose Rizal was charged with rebellion, sedition, and conspiracy (por rebelion, sedicion, y asociacion ilicita') against the Spanish government ruling Philippines back in the day. Sooner Rizal's execution was approved in December 28 and his execution will commence in December 30. Before Rizal's execution, his family came to visit his jail cell for one last time, and priests were pursuing him to go back to the catholic fold.
Finally, the day has come, 30th of December at Bagumbayan (Now named as Rizal Park) Six-teen soldiers composed of eight filipinoes at the front and another eight soldiers to his back. All armed with Mauser Rifles for the execution of Jose Rizal, now known as our National Hero for his sacrifice to the country.
In 1898, Emilio Aguinaldo (First president of the Philippines) commemorated Rizal day as a national holiday to mourn the death of our hero. The first town to celebrate the said holiday was Camarines Norte, now celebrated nationally.
Today, we are expressing gratitude to our National Hero, Jose Rizal. This day can be celebrated in many ways by taking a time off work, uniting together with our families, and preaching to our Philippines flag. MRT is even offering free rides during rush hours in celebration for the said holiday.
We truly unite together as Filipinoes! Happy Rizal Day — from AMPLIFY
