Directions in South Korea

Almost all international flights land at the Seoul/Incheon airport. Some flights from Japan to the airports in Busan and Daegu are available.

The most convenient way of traveling from the Incheon airport to Pohang is to take the train. There is a frequent train from the airport to Seoul station (both regular commuter "all-stop" train, about 1 hour, and a less frequent express train with more comfortable seating, about 45 minutes). No reservation is needed for the airport train. Pohang is located at approximately 270  km from the city of Seoul and it is well connected via the high speed train KTX,  which takes 2.5 hrs from Seoul to Pohang Train Station. 

IMPORTANT: The KTX trains tend to get fully booked, in particular on weekends, so booking a ticket beforehand is strongly recommended, see https://www.letskorail.com/ . Reservations can be done up to one month before the departure of the train. In case plans change, the ticket can be modified or (partially) refunded quite easily on the webpage or at the train stations. The departure time of the KTX from Seoul should be at least about 2.5 hours later than the arrival time of your flight to Incheon.

For return journey: the first KTX from Pohang to Seoul departs at 5:37 am, and with this train you will be at the airport at around 9:30 am. So flights with departure at around noon or later can be reached from Pohang without staying overnight in Seoul or in Incheon.

There are also direct buses from the Incheon airport to Pohang, and flights connecting Pohang Airport with Gimpo Airport in Seoul, but these are not too frequent. The "all-stop" train from Incheon airport stops also at the Gimpo airport.  Pohang Airport is located approximately 9 km outside the city center.

All participants will be accommodated either at the POSCO International Center at the Campus. You can reach the hotel from the Pohang Train Station using a taxi in 15-30 min. Prices for taxi for this distance is around 10 USD. (Note: To use a taxi it may be required to show the driver the address in Korean, or alternatively to show the instructions in this pdf file.) Directions for lunch: 

Lunches will take place at the Blue Hill restaurant at the hotel, POSCO international center, except on Wednesday. On Wednesday, we will have lunch at APCTP.
