Mr. Aparicio’s experience includes representation of non-profits and tax-exempt organizations, such as Acero Schools Chicago (previously known as UNO Charter School Network), providing advice and counsel to both the Board of Directors and senior leadership teams on matters related to non-profit exempt status; state and regulatory compliance with the Illinois Charter School Law; Illinois Open Meetings Act and Freedom of Information Act; design/build and construction contracts; providing counsel on labor and employment matters, such as drafting employment contracts and settlement agreements, establishing policies / procedures for employee handbooks, and managing all high-level hiring and terminations; advising on specific procurement matters, including drafting of solicitations including RFPs; drafting and review of vendor, supply, intergovernmental, and commercial agreements.
In particular, Mr. Aparicio was instrumental in successfully terminating federal SEC oversight, stemming from the prior UNO board’s mismanagement of state grants and bond offering.
His experience as public agency counsel includes roles as assistant general counsel to the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, where he acquired significant experience in legislative and regulatory matters, employment and labor law, government contracts and procurement, and defending the agency against administrative claims.
Mr. Aparicio is currently Chief Legal Counsel to a Commissioner of the Cook County Board, where he counsels the Commissioner on parliamentary procedures and board rules, legislation, contracts, government grants, contractual and legal authority for corporate actions, and other advice related to the execution of his fiduciary duties as County Commissioner.
He represents clients and small business owners in a wide range of real estate related transactions. Mr. Aparicio has advised small business owners and real estate investors on residential and commercial projects; counseled on property management, evictions and other legal actions; and is experienced in easements, licenses and leases. Moreover, he provides legal counsel to small business owners and non-profits with contract negotiations and disputes, employment matters, leases and license agreements, and incorporating new businesses.
Mr. Aparicio is admitted to practice law in the State of Illinois and the United States Supreme Court.

Ms. Medez has over 5 years real estate experience, previously working for a well-recognized real estate brokerage on the Southwest side of Chicago. Most recently, she spent 2-years at a law firm in the downtown Chicago area, focused on immigration, criminal defense, and managing medical marijuana applications.
Law Clerk
Mr. Karpinski is a rising 2L pursuing a JD, following his father and sister, at UIC John Marshall Law school. Mr. Karpinski received his Bachelors degree from Belmont Abbey College in business management with a minor in marketing. During his time at Belmont Abbey Kyle was a part of the men’s wrestling team in addition to being the Men’s Wrestling liaison with the NCAA.
