Ambiguous grief can happen when you're grieving someone who’s still alive, but they're emotionally or mentally absent—like with dementia, addiction, immature parents,  or major life changes. It can also happen with shifts in a relationship, like a breakup or when someone you love becomes distant. The loss feels real, but it's hard to define because the person hasn’t completely "gone" and your tired of  hearing "your life changed for the best."

This kind of grief is complicated as its not clear cut.You may feel stuck, potentially grieving the future or the connection you thought you had. Your sadness is real, even if it doesn't look like typical grief, and it’s okay to feel confused or torn.

What you're going through is valid. It’s important to recognize and address that grief, even if others don’t always see it or understand it, and find ways to honor your emotions and the life changes you’re facing.

Trauma can show up in different ways. Childhood trauma happens when you go through hurtful experiences early in life—things like neglect, abuse, or growing up in an unsafe environment. Relational trauma affects how you connect with others, often from past hurts that show up in current relationships. Familial trauma is about patterns of harm within families—like conflict or emotional neglect. Generational trauma is when pain from previous generations gets passed down and affects how you live today.

These kinds of trauma shape how we see the world, ourselves, and others, often without realizing it. The key is recognizing how they impact you, so you can start healing .
