This course is a fun, energy-filled opportunity for all school musical "Aladdin" cast members to learn the music and to start learning the script for our spring show. Auditions for lead roles will take place separately in the fall. If you do not receive a lead role, you are still invited to be a part of the ensemble cast, so plan to be part of "A Whole New World" of fun and excitement.

Guitar - Rock Band Workshop

Description:

You'll learn chords and strum patterns - rock, pop, and classical styles of playing. All levels of ability are welcome, whether you've never played or have some experience. For the more advanced students, we will have a Rock Band workshop for the second week. If you sing(singers are needed!), play guitar, electric bass, or drums this is for you! We will be ensemble songs and reviewing the fundamentals of playing together as a Rock Band. We are having a live performance on the last day of Winterim at the "Show What You Know" assembly! **Students must bring their own instrument and amplifier equipment from home. ***You will also need a capo and an electric tuner.

Getting to Know the Real Edgar Allan Poe - An American Author **American Symposium Class

Description:

Time to put on your thinking caps as we explore some of the poetry and short stories of the master, Edgar Allan Poe. Most people believe he wrote only scary and dark literature, but you will be amazed by the beauty and depth and other emotions he spoke about as we paint the setting of "The Cask of Amontillado," write a mini-mystery using techniques of the "Tell-Tale Heart," write poetry based on the learning from Annabel Lee, create board games about following your dreams by analyzing "Eldorado," make a collage and write descriptive words on what really happened in "The Raven," and participate in a unique choral rendition on "The Bells." There will be Poe Bingo and Match Games as well. Learn to love the writing of a truly brilliant American author!

In this class, students will have exclusive access to various movie scripts, including films that were produced and even some that were never made. We will not only read scripts, but learn about the process of producing a film, from writing to directing to acting and all the various jobs you can one day pursue if you want to work in show business. Everyday we will have a different lesson about movies, filmmaking, as well as the American history of Hollywood and the entertainment industry.


Please keep in mind this is not a drama class, we will not be performing or acting out our movie scripts and students will not be expected to perform at any point. Also, we will not be watching movies, but rather short movie clips when it applies to the scripts we are reading.

In 1967 "The Prisoner" television show debut in England. The mini series portrays Number Six, an unnamed British intelligence agent who is abducted and imprisoned in a mysterious coastal village after resigning from his position. The show explored a modern vision of dystopia. This class will use the series as a means to explore how the Bill of Rights in America is designed to safeguard our society from such possibilities. In class several episodes will be viewed and the action of the show will be used to explore the nature of our own Bill of Rights through discussion and writing.

Feeling overwhelmed by pressures and deadlines is part of life for everyone! In this class, students will develop a toolbox of practices that help manage stress and maintain mental well-being during high-pressure times. We'll explore a wide variety of stress management and wellness practices including journaling, creative writing, meditation and breathing, movement, music and nature appreciation, and creative expression.

American Flag Football Skill Building and Live Sport Competition**American Symposium Class

This course is a deep dive into the sport of American Flag Football. Students will develop fundamental skills required to succeed in the sport. Students will participate in drill - like settings, while building skills and knowledge of the sport. Students will participate in live tactical games of American flag football. Students will cooperate on a team and compete with other teams in the sport. If you are interested in learning about and competing in the sport of American Flag Football come join this Winterim class.

Olympic Sports at the Utah Olympic Oval **American Symposium Class

Description:

Join us in learning about different Winter Olympic Sports at the Utah Olympic Oval in Kearns. We will have the opportunity to learn ice skating, hockey, speed skating, and curling from Olympic athletes who live and work in Utah.

Weight Training CLASS IS FULL!

Description:

This class will be held in the weight room. Students will learn fundamentals of weight training using free weights. Some examples of lifts that will be performed regularly by the students are: (but not limited to) bench press, squats, power pull, incline press, shoulder press, front squats, dumbell lunges, etc. The lessons will consist of light to moderate levels of lifting regimens, advanced levels will be optional on an individual basis.
