Welcome to the Climate Action Campus, Ōtautahi.
This is a place of action and hope. We hope you enjoy looking around our website, and we'd love to see you at the campus!
Soon to be created at the Climate Action Campus.
The BC Butterfly is endemic to Canterbury and found nowhere else in the world! They are very small- about 3 cm from wing tip to tip! Males have a beautiful purple tinge to their wings, whereas females are a dark copper colour all over.
The Boulder Copper caterpillars only eat Muehlenbeckia axillaris. The butterflies eat nectar from other plants. They like rocks and stones to keep warm as they are cold blooded.
If you are interested in supporting our students in building this habitat we would gratefully accept! (read more information on the News page)
Other species we would like to introduce are:
Winter Copper- Muehlenbeckia complexa
Rauparaha’s Copper- Muehlenbeckia complexa and axillaris
Blue Butterfly- Native low growing broom , scree pea (montigena)
Short Horn Grasshopper- Grassses- tussock
Vertabrate- lizards and geckos.
Ākonga who attended matariki activities at the campus created these feathers representing the colours of our native manu and added their own names. We have begun creating a korowai for those feathers and hope to adorn it with more from new visitors.
An inter-organisation hui to celebrate the move into the new headquarters by School Strike 4 Climate, Xtinction Rebellion and Restore Passenger Rail. We shared kai and had a much-needed korero about climate justice, our different goals and shared vision. There were representatives from a wide range of groups, high school students from over ten different schools, as well as council members and political party candidates.
