Based in the wood shop of Boothbay Region High School, Portside Planks is a hardworking team of eight students. While our team may be small, our quality is anything but; we pride ourselves on delivering premium, handcrafted cutting boards directly to your kitchen
Born from BRHS's "Making and Marketing" class, Portside Planks is the result of transforming a student collective into a real, hard-working company. Our journey began with a thorough brainstorming phase, during which we narrowed our vision to five final contenders: dog bowl holders, spice racks, birdhouses, pickleball paddles, and cutting boards. We put our visions to the test by building physical prototypes. After analyzing the craftsmanship and potential of each design, it was clear that cutting boards would become our product.
Our development phase involved tests on multiple new board prototypes we created including chevron, end grain, and hinged designs, as well as a creative Maine shaped board. After conducting durability tests and evaluating the boards, we concluded our classic design offered the perfect balance of appeal and quality.
