SUPPORT STAFF POSITIONS
The unit shall employ nonprofessional personnel in positions which function to support the educational program of the schools.
All such support staff positions in the school system shall be established initially by the board. In each case, the board will approve an initial job description as presented by the superintendent.
Support staff employees shall be those who work in the following general areas:
A. Secretarial staff;
B. Instructional aides (defined as those who devote at least 50 percent of their work time to assisting one or more certified teachers with instruction);
C. Non-instructional aides (defined as those who devote at least 50 percent of their work time to activities other than assisting with instruction);
D. Custodial staff;
E. Maintenance staff;
F. Pupil transportation staff; and
G. Food service staff.
Although positions may remain temporarily unfilled, or the number of persons holding the same type of position is reduced in the event of de-staffing requirements, only the board may abolish a position that it has created.
