TEACHER EVALUATION - PROCEDURES
I. Evaluations
A. The principal* is the primary evaluator and is responsible for the final written evaluation.
B. Additional evaluators will be mutually agreed upon.
C. Curriculum coordinator, assistant principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent may participate in the process.
II. Review of Evaluation Procedures
A . Fall
A meeting will be held in each school before the end of October to acquaint all staff members, new and returning, with the evaluation process as it relates to school goals and evaluation criteria.
B. Spring
The Teacher Evaluation Committee will meet before May 1st to review the evaluation program and make changes for the following year.
III. Who will be evaluated?
A. All non-tenured teachers will be evaluated annually.
B. Each tenured teacher will be evaluated at least every three (3) years.
IV. Goal Setting
A. Each teacher being evaluated will be required to set a minimum of one goal for improving his teaching and submit it in writing to his building principal no later than October 1st .
B. The principal and teacher will meet to discuss the previously submitted goals and finalize the goals for the year prior to October 15t h .
V. Visitations
A. Formal evaluation visitations will take place between October 1st and March 15t h .
1. Non-tenured teachers : there will be a minimum of 3 visits. At least one of these visits will be previously agreed upon as to date, time and duration.
2. Tenured teachers; there will be a minimum of 2 visits, one of which will be mutually scheduled .
B. A post-visitation written summary, which includes alternatives for the improvement of instruction, will be given to the teacher as soon as possible after the visitation and at least a day prior to the informal conference. This process may be changed by mutual agreement.
* The term "Principal" refers to the principal him/herself or his/her designee.
C. The informal conference will be held within seven (7) school days of the visitation or at a time mutually agreed upon.
VI. Final Written Evaluation
A. Self-Evaluation
The teacher will prepare a self-evaluation which might include a summary of progress on goals, strengths and weaknesses of instructional program and a discussion of progress made, etc.
This will be discussed at the final conference.
B. Principal's Evaluation
The principal will present to the teacher, a written summary of his evaluation of the teacher's performance at least five (5) days prior to the final conference.
C. The Final Conference
1. Tenured teacher conferences completed May 15th
2. Non-tenured teacher conferences completed March 15th -
D. Teacher Evaluation Document
After the final conference, the principal will complete a Teacher Evaluation Document .
1. The written evaluation will be signed by the teacher, although this signature does not necessarily signify that the teacher fully, or even partially, agrees with the report. This signature proves only that the evaluation summation has been read and understood .
2. A teacher who disagrees with the evaluation may submit a statement attached to the final evaluation document.
3. The report will be completed in triplicate:
a. One copy to teacher.
b. One copy to principal (Materials may be placed in individual files only with teacher's knowledge. Each teacher shall have access to his evaluation file and the opportunity to take exception to any statements contained therein.)
c. One copy to superintendent. (The superintendent's copy will be filed in the teacher's record folder at the central office.)
