PARENT INVOLVEMENT - SPECIAL EDUCATION
The school committee makes provision for the participation of and consultation with parents or guardians of disabled students in the school system by providing them with their full legal rights under state and federal law to participate in the identification, evaluation, placement and programming decisions made by the Pupil Evaluation Team (PET) for their children.
In addition, parent participation and consultation is provided in other ways, including:
A. Availability of special education director and teachers to meet with parents at mutually convenient times to discuss the special education program and needs of their children;
B. Attendance by the special education director on a regular basis at meetings of local parent support groups to discuss special education issues faced by the school system; and
C. Active involvement by the special education director in the efforts by local parent groups to address shared special education concerns.
