Hello Young Scholars!
We are now moving to regular assignments as the at-home learning expectation. As of now, none of the work will be graded. This could change in the future depending on the course and timing of this great crisis.
If you have been reading Les Miserables as suggested reading, I hope that you have found the novel meaningful and insightful. You may choose to continue reading the novel at your own pace, or to put it aside and resume reading it during the summer.
The novel unit for the fourth quarter is Great Expectations, by Charles Dickens. The text can be found at the website below. Here, you can read the text of each chapter online or you may download the chapter to a pdf file to print. Along with the text is the audio recording which I highly recommend since Dickens's use of language and sentence structure requires close attention. You may also download the audio recording for you to listen to on your personal device while you read along with the text. I have attached study questions that will help you with your comprehension. As we progress to each successive reading assignment, I will share with you suggested answers to the previous reading assignment enabling you to move forward with complete understanding of the novel as it progresses.
I will be giving you reading assignments on Tuesday and Thursday. The average assignment will be approximately 30 pages of reading (if it were in a paperback). Listening along to the audio for this length of text will take about 45 minutes. Completing the study questions will take about 15 minutes.
Here is your source for the text and audio recording:
https://etc.usf.edu/lit2go/140/great-expectations/
The assignment for Thursday is to read Chapters 1-4 and to complete the corresponding study questions.
I attached the first set of study questions.
I also attached a character list which you will find as a helpful reference.
Please reach out to me if you have any questions.
Stay home! Stay safe!
Mr. P
