Welcome to K

**Welcome to Kindergarten**

I look forward to working with you to make your child’s year a positive and successful learning experience. I hope the following information will be helpful to you! Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions. ~Mrs. Rolfe

1. Mornings

The children will enter school each morning no earlier than 7:35. They will come directly to the classroom. If they need breakfast, it will be delivered from the cafeteria and they will eat in the classroom

Breakfast is free and is available at school daily. We would encourage your child to eat a filling breakfast each morning, at home or here at school (or both!), as it is the fuel necessary to be successful in the classroom. If your child is having breakfast at school, he/she needs to tell an adult so that we can help them through the breakfast line until they are comfortable to do it on their own. In addition to this letter is a breakfast form so I know if your child will be eating breakfast at school sometimes, always, or not at all. You will receive a menu each month for breakfast and hot lunch in order to plan ahead.

2. Snack Time

Please send in a drink, preferably a closed water bottle (no glass), from home along with 2-3 snacks each day. We strongly encourage children to bring healthy snacks to school. Fruits, vegetables, cheese and crackers are snack favorites. We also do not allow sharing of snacks due to too many food allergies and restrictions.

**A list of healthy snack ideas will be sent home.**

3. Lunch and Milk

Your child may bring a home lunch or get hot lunch at school, for free. Milk is available to buy for home lunches. A lunch/breakfast calendar is sent home before the beginning of each new month so you can plan ahead.

4. End of the Day

School ends at 2:09. If you are picking up your child, please wait in the designated space and your child will be delivered to you. For any changes in end-of-day routine, you will need to send in a note or call the office by 1:30 at the latest. Also, please let us know if your child is arriving late or being picked up early. It is the school’s policy to send each child to their usual destination at the end of the day unless a parent notifies us otherwise. No adult will be allowed to pick up your child from school unless we have a note or a phone call from you. We work very hard to keep all of the children safe.

5. Belongings

Please label your child’s jackets, sweaters, lunch/snack bag, backpack, shoes, boots, etc. with their name so they can get all their belongings home each day. Please label EVERYTHING!

Here is a list of items for your child to bring to school each day:

Backpack

Lunch/snack bag

Healthy snacks

Water bottle

Sweater, sweatshirt, jacket...(windows will be open daily)

Outside gear (when weather permits)

6. Extra Clothes

Please have an extra set of clothing, including shorts, pants, socks and underwear in case of unexpected emergencies or accidents. We will keep these in your child’s cubby space just in case.

7. Rest

Another important factor in your child’s success at school is an early bedtime. We work very hard at school and when children are tired, they often have difficulty staying focused. Please be sure your child gets the recommended 10-12 hours of sleep per night.

I consider it a privilege to be your child’s Kindergarten teacher, and I look forward to a fun-filled year of learning. Remember to take a look at our classroom website for more information and weekly/monthly updates. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
