Mathematics

The mathematics goal for students in the Stretch program will be to work through the grade level Common Core standards in an accelerated manner. To do this, they will be using the iReady math program (just like in the regular classroom). In Stretch, students will complete their entire grade level curriculum and, if ready, will work on  standards that are above grade level.  This program focuses on problem solving and mathematical discourse. Students will also participate in enrichment activities in the area of mathematics. This includes problem solving and logic activities, Greg Tang puzzles, and Breakout Rooms (an educational escape room type of activity). Students will also participate in the Continental Math League (CML) meets throughout the year (five in all, approximately every month from November to March) along with preparation for those meets. Students will be expected to be fluent with all of their math facts and will be assessed regularly on them. Students will have nightly homework in math Mondays through Thursdays. Other underlying goals will be to work on learning from our mistakes, persevering when things are challenging, and collaboration.

Students in grade 6 will work with Ms. Brackett instead of Mrs. Foster.
