STRETCH

Stretch Overview

The Stretch program services the top 5% of students at Winslow Elementary School in math and reading. Students may qualify for services in one area or in both. Students go through an initial screening in the spring of grade 2. This includes teacher recommendation as well as a universal screener (the CogAT). The results from their grade 2  assessments are analyzed and some students are chosen to participate in additional screening. A committee meets to analyze all of the scores (without names) and to choose the students who will be invited to participate in the Stretch program. Students who qualify at the end of grade 2 will participate in Stretch in grades 3-5. In grade 3, students work with Mrs. Foster for one math block and one reading block for enrichment. In grades 4 and 5, students go to Stretch for all of their reading and math instruction. In grade 6, students receive reading and writing instruction with Mrs. Foster (and math instruction with Ms. Bisson). All students are reassessed at the end of grade 5 to determine who will qualify for grade 6-8.

About Mrs. Foster

I attended the University of Maine in Orono where I received my Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education in 1993; my Master's Degree of Education in 2004; and my Certificate of Advanced Study in Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction in 2014. In 2019, I became certified as a gifted and talented teacher.

During my 24 year career, I have been a first grade teacher, a fourth grade teacher, a fifth grade teacher, a math coach, and a gifted and talented teacher! I was inspired to work with gifted students by my son who is gifted.

I have been married for 31 years and have two children: Meaghan, who is 30 and who works as a mental health therapist in Cambridge, England, and Brett, who is 25 who is a software engineering at a cybersecurity company in Virginia.  I also have two goldendoodles, Milo and Sadie. Sadie is eight and a half years old and has been a certified therapy dog for seven years! She has worked with small children, the elderly, and many ages in between! Milo is five and is super cute but awfully naughty!

In my spare time, I love to read, garden, hike, snowmobile, jet ski, kayak and volunteer with Sadie!
