Professional Development for a District, School, and Individual is like a three layered cake whose frosting anchors and unites each layer of learning.
The Concept of Layered Professional Development
Layered professional development is a concept in that all the layers of professional development (district, school, and individual) are aligned and work together to support the overall goals/initiatives of a school district.
The first layer is district professional development. District goals are identified based on district data. District professional development is that pd that is provided to all staff based on district goals.
The second layer of professional development is school based pd. This professional development supports school goals. School goals are identified based on district initiatives and school level data. Goals and professional development reflect the differentiated needs of each building within the district.
The third layer of professional development supports the individuals that work within the district. Individual professional development are those opportunities that are offered to staff, that stay in alignment to the overall goals of the district, but that support the individual learning needs of staff… offerings that are relevant, inspiring, and nourishing.
