The 2025 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet officially commenced yesterday, March 2nd, with a vibrant opening ceremony held at the Binirayan Sports Complex. Thousands of student-athletes and spectators gathered to witness the start of this highly anticipated regional sporting event.
The event was graced by key figures, including representatives from the Department of Education (DepEd), led by Undersecretary Peter Irving Corvera, and local government officials, such as Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao, and San Jose de Buenavista Mayor Delfin Justin R. Encarnacion. Also in attendance were other regional governors.
Approximately 6,000 student-athletes and coaches from the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental are set to compete in various sporting disciplines throughout the week-long event.
Despite the creation of the Negros Island Region (NIR), athletes from Negros Occidental are still participating in this years WVRAA, and will still be participating in the Palarong Pambansa.
The athletes are competing in many different sporting events, and the games are scheduled to last from March 2nd to March 8th.
The event is expected to showcase the athletic talent and sportsmanship of the youth in Western Visayas.
The championship game of secondary girls' volleyball wasn’t just a match to watch but a match to learn from. It was a display of true sportsmanship, showing how one can strive for excellence and competence without dimming the beauty of camaraderie and friendship. The Antiqueños have been very welcoming and warm toward all delegates, not just their own.
We have seen many people lend a helping hand in making this event possible, especially for those who couldn’t enter the gymnasium due to maximum capacity. I commend the team at GoFridy for providing reliable LIVE coverage and stunning visuals throughout the duration of the 2025 WVRAA. Your work was not just a job—it was a service to the Antiqueño people and the citizens of Region 6.
Kudos to the team of documenters, PDRRMO, Binirayan Sports Complex staff, and other agencies who worked together to bring this much-anticipated game to life. Duro gid nga salamat!
